Alexander Edler News

Edler (undisclosed) left Wednesday's game and did not return; questionable to play Thursday.

Both Edler and Travis Hamonic left Wednesday's game vs. Montreal and did not return. During his postgame press availability, head coach Travis Green did not have an update on either defenseman. If both aren't available for Thursday's game, look for Olli Juolevi and Jordie Benn to be in the lineup.

Edler is doubtful for Sunday's game due to an upper-body injury.

Edler was forced to leave Saturday's win in Edmonton with an upper-body injury and is not expected to play in the second-half of their home-and-home on Sunday. With Edler out, look for Tyler Myers and Quinn Hughes to play a lot more on Sunday and for Troy Stecher to see some power-play time.

Edler (upper-body) is questionable to play Monday.

Edler was forced to leave Saturday's game in the first period after sustaining an upper-body injury. Edler's injury is not serious and he is expected to skate before Monday's game to see if he can play in Philadelphia. If he can't play, Oscar Fantenberg will likely replace him in the lineup and Tyler Myers would see PP2 time.

The Canucks have re-signed Alex Edler to a two-year contract worth $12 million ($6.0M AAV).

Edler is coming off of one of the best seasons of his career despite missing 26 games due to injury. Edler scored double-digit goals for the first time since 2011-12 and added 24 assists. That’s a 15-goal, 35-assist (50 points) per 82 game campaign from the 33-year-old, who hasn’t appeared in 82 games since 2012. With the Canucks emerging as a strong offensive team, Edler will carry some fantasy value into 2019-20 but injuries are always a huge concern for the big Swede.

Edler (face) was taken to hospital for X-rays after being stretchered off of the ice on Monday.

Edler took an awkward fall, face-first onto the ice in Philadelphia on Monday and will remain in a Philadelphia area hospital while the Canucks travel to Washington. It was a scary fall and will likely result in Edler missing a fair amount of time. Look for Alex Biega to replace Edler in the lineup on Tuesday.

Edler (lower-body) will go for an MRI on Friday.

Edler was forced to leave Wednesday’s game with a lower-body injury and was placed on IR on Thursday afternoon. He will go for an MRI on Friday to determine the severity of his injury. Edler missing time due to injury comes as no surprise, as the veteran defenseman has missed at least 12 games in each of the last three seasons—missing a total of 56 games over that span.
