Andreas Athanasiou News

The Kings have placed Andreas Athanasiou (undisclosed) on IR.

Athanasiou's injury could not have come at a worse time for the 27-year-old. Athanasiou recently replaced Viktor Arvidsson on the Kings' second line and has scored goals in three straight games, totalling four goals with one assist in that stretch.

Athanasiou (lower-body) is expected to be available for Saturday's game vs. the Jets.

Athanasiou was hurt in his second game with the Oilers but avoided serious injury and could play Saturday. Athanasiou has picked up two points (1G / 1A) and three shots on goal in his first two games on Connor McDavid's wing.

The Oilers have acquired Andreas Athanasiou and Ryan Kuffner from the Red Wings for Sam Gagner, a 2020 second-round pick and a 2021 second-round pick.

Athanasiou has had a disappointing 2019-20 season after his 30-goal breakout campaign a year ago. The 25-year-old has just ten goals and 24 assists in 46 games this season, but don’t be surprised if the change of scenery reignites his production. After spending most of the season on the wing of Valtteri Filppula, Athanasiou will now almost certainly get a shot at playing alongside Connor McDavid. He is set to become a restricted free agent on July 1st.

Athanasiou (lower-body) will return to the Red Wings lineup on Monday.

Athanasiou missed the last 13 games with a lower-body injury but will play Monday vs. the Flyers. Athanasiou will replace Filip Zadina, who is out with a lower-body injury of his own, and skate on the top-line and top power-play unit.

Athanasiou will miss 2-to-3 weeks with a lower-body injury.

Athanasiou's difficult season gets worse as he'll now be out until at least mid-January with a lower-body injury. Athanasiou started to improve in the absence of Anthony Mantha, posting three assists with 13 shots in his last four games.

The Red Wings have placed Andreas Athanasiou (undisclosed) on IR.

Athanasiou has missed the first two games of the regular season and was moved to IR, retroactively to September 20th, which means he can be activated whenever he is healthy. Athanasiou practiced on Friday, which suggests that he shouldn’t be out too long, so monitor his status throughout the week.
