Sateri was originally a fourth-round pick of the Sharks in 2008 but struggled during most of his time in North America. The 32-year-old has been much better since going to the KHL in 2020 and won Gold at the 2022 Olympics with Finland. In a corresponding move, the Maple Leafs waived Petr Mrazek.




Sateri will serve as Jonathan Bernier’s backup on Friday because Jimmy Howard is dealing with an illness. Sateri has gone 18-9-0 with a 2.79 GAA and .902 SV% in 30 games with the Griffins this season.


Niemi allowed four goals on 23 shots in the Canadiens loss to the Flyers on January 19th. With Carey Price serving a one-game suspension for skipping the All-Star game, Niemi will start the front-end of the Canadiens’ back-to-back. Niemi is 4-1-0 with a 2.97 GAA and .912 SV% in five games on home-ice this season.



Niemi allowed two goals on 47 shots in the Canadiens win in Dallas on New Year’s Eve. It was Niemi’s best outing of the season and tonight he gets his second crack at the Red Wings—Niemi stopped 25 of 28 shots in a 7-3 win in their first meeting of the season (Oct.15).



Niemi was yanked after allowed seven goals on 23 shots in the Canadiens 7-1 loss in Minnesota on December 11th. With Carey Price on IR with a lower-body injury, Niemi will start Friday in Florida. Niemi has lost each of his last three starts while allowing a combined 16 goals on 106 shots (.849 SV%). Tonight he takes on a Panthers team that has won four of their last five while averaging 3.60 goals for per game.

Despite rough numbers, he has a good matchup against a Wild team that has lost seven of their last 10 games while averaging just 2.50 goals per game.
