Benoit Pouliot News

The Sabres have signed Benoit Pouliot for one-year at $1.15M.

Pouliot had 33 goals and 37 assists (70 points) in 113 games in his first two seasons in Edmonton, but struggled a year ago leading to a buyout. The 30-year-old winger goes from being overpaid to potentially one of the best value contracts in 2017-18 free agency. Pouliot will likely play on the second or third line behind Evander Kane and is capable of posting a 20-20 season if he can stay healthy.

The Oilers have placed Benoit Pouliot on unconditional waivers for the purpose of a buyout.

After posting 34 and 36 points during injury riddled seasons in his first two years in Edmonton, Pouliot struggled mightily in 2016-17, recording just eight goals and six assists (14 points) in 67 games. Pouliot was entering the fourth year of a five-year contract that carried a $4.0M cap-hit. His buyout will save the Oilers $2.66M against the cap this season.

Pouliot (lower-body) will not play on Wednesday.

Pouliot was not on the ice for the Oilers’ morning skate and will be held out of the lineup on Wednesday with the Bruins in town. With Pouliot out, Ilro Pakarainen will get a look on the second line with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Teddy Purcell. Pouliot is listed as day-to-day.

Pouliot (foot) will not play on Monday.

Pouliot took part in in the Oilers morning skate, but will not be in the lineup tonight vs. the Devils. It will be the third straight game that he has missed, however his participation this morning is a good sign that he could be back on Tuesday vs. the Islanders.
