Brandon Davidson News

The Oilers have signed Brandon Davidson to a two-year deal worth $2.85 million.

Davidson, 24, has picked up 10 points (4G /6A) in 47 games with the Oilers this season after picking up just one goal in his first 12 NHL games last season. Davidson was set to become a restricted free agent at the end of this season but will now be with the Oilers through the 2017-18 season.

Davidson (undisclosed) is not expected to play on Monday.

Davidson was the victim of a hard cross-check in Saturday’s loss in Colorado and it will force him to sit out the Oilers final game before the Christmas break. With Davidson out, the Oilers recalled Mark Fayne, who will play on Monday. Davidson will be reevaluated after the break.

van Riemsdyk (knee) joined his teammates for Friday's morning skate.

van Riemsdyk, who has been sidelined with a left patella fracture since November 16th, had been limited to skating on his own, but joined his teammates for the first time this morning. The 23-year-old is just over three months into a 3-4 month timetable, so it appears as if he is progressing well.

The Oilers have recalled Brandon Davidson from Oklahoma City (AHL).

Davidson, 23, was the Oilers sixth round pick (162nd overall) in 2010. The former Regina Pats defenseman has one goal and two assists in 14 games with OKC this season. He is a great story, the young defenseman beat testicular cancer in 2012 and has now reached the NHL.
