The Flyers signed Brayden Schenn to a four-year contract extension worth $20.5 million ($5.125M AAV).

The Flyers and Schenn avoid arbitration by getting this deal signed. Schenn is coming off of a career-year, notching 26 goals and 33 assists (59 points) in 80 games. In the 2016 calendar year, Schenn was among the best fantasy forwards, collecting 44 points (19G / 25A) in 46 games from January-to-April—he had just 15 points (7G / 8A) in the first 34 games of the season. Schenn might not turn into a point-per-game player during the 2016-17 season, but he might be able to top 60 points for the first time in his career.

Schenn will skate on the Flyers top-line with Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek.

When Scott Hartnell was traded this summer, the big question was "who will fill that spot on the Flyers top line?" There were four candidates, Brayden Schenn, Wayne Simmonds, Matt Read and R.J Umberger. For now, that spot will belong to the 23-year-old Schenn. He had 20 goals and 21 assists (41 points) in 2013-14 and now has even more upside playing with one of the leagues top setup men.

On the Brayden Schenn front, Holmgren announced that he skated and did his off ice conditioning again today and has made good strides. His status is now day-to-day.

With Claude Giroux back in the lineup, the Flyers can play it safe with their youngsters. Schenn has no points through six games with a minus-6 rating and may get yet another conditioning stint when healthy.
