The Rangers have signed Brendan Lemieux to a one-year deal worth $925K.

Lemieux was traded to the Rangers last season and finished the season with six points (3G / 3A) in 19 games with New York. Adding Kaapo Kakko, Artemi Panarin and potentially Vitali Kravtsov upfront this offseason is going to make it very difficult for Lemieux to crack the opening night lineup in 2020.

Lemieux will make his Rangers debut on Wednesday.

Lemieux was acquired from the Jets in the Kevin Hayes trade and will replace Filip Chytil in the lineup on Wednesday. Lemieux is a former No.31 overall pick in 2014 but has been limited by a deep roster in Winnipeg, scoring nine goals with two assists (11 points) in 44 games on their fourth line. He will start with Lias Andersson and Pavel Buchnevich.

The son of former NHLer Claude Lemieux had 32 goals and 30 assists (62 points) in 45 OHL games with Barrie and Windsor last season. The 20-year-old also had three points (2G / 1A) in five AHL games and should be a key contributor to the Moose’s success this season.

The Sabres have traded Brendan Lemieux, Drew Stafford, Tyler Myers, Joel Armia and a 1st round pick to the Jets for Evander Kane, Zach Bogosian and Jason Kasdorf.

Lemieux, 18, was a second-round pick (31st overall) of the Sabres in last summer’s draft. The son of former NHLer Claude Lemieux, Brendan is a gritty forward who can put the puck in the net. He has 35 goals and 15 assists (50 points) in 46 games with the Barrie Colts (OHL) this season.
