The Golden Knights have re-signed Brett Howden to a one-year, $1.5 million contract.

Howden was originally not qualified by the Golden Knights but ended up signing a one-year deal to stay with the team. Howden, who was a first-round pick in 2016, has never lived up to the offensive potential he flashed in the WHL. He's played almost exclusively as a fourth-line centre and will likely continue to do so in 2022-23.

Howden (undisclosed) was released from the hospital but is out indefinitely.

Howden had to be stretchered off of the ice after taking an awkward hit from Filip Forsberg on Thursday night. He was sent to the hospital to undergo evaluation but was released and was at the team facility on Friday. Nothing was broken but he is still expected to be sidelined for an extended period of time.

The Golden Knights placed Brett Howden on the COVID-19 protocol list on Monday.

Howden is the third Golden Knights' skater to go into protocol recently, joining Alex Pietrangelo and Evgenii Dadonov. Both Pietrangelo and Dadonov could be back for New Year's Eve vs. the Ducks, while Howden is likely to miss the next four games.

The Golden Knights have acquired Brett Howden from the Rangers for Nick DeSimone and a '22 4th round pick.

Howden signed a one-year, $885K contract in early July but was sent to Vegas on Saturday and will likely be replaced by Barclay Goodrow, who is a pending UFA but was acquired from the Lightning on the same day. Howden has seen his playing time and offensive numbers drop since his rookie season, finishing 2021-22 with seven points (1G / 6A) in 42 games.
