This is the second time in less than a year that de Haan has underwent major surgery on his right shoulder, which is obviously troubling for the Blackhawks who have him under contract through the 2021-22 season. With de Haan out for the year and being moved to LTIR, the Blackhawks gain $4.55M in salary cap relief but it will be difficult for them to replace de Haan through their minor league system or through a trade.

de Haan was hurt midway through Tuesday's game in Vegas and was immediately sent back to Chicago for evaluation. de Haan being placed on IR means he will miss at least three games. With de Haan out, Slater Koekkoek will draw back into the lineup on Thursday.

de Haan has been questionable leading up to the Blackhawks season opener in Prague but was officially ruled out a few hours prior to puck-drop. Dennis Gilbert will play in his second career NHL game in de Haan's spot on the Blackhawks blueline.

In his first and only season with the Hurricanes, de Haan registered one goal with 13 assists (14 points) in 74 gmaes. It was the worst statistical season of de Haan’s 378-game career. de Haan was one of the biggest defenseman on the market and lands in Carolina, where he’ll be a part of one of the best bluelines in the NHL. de Haan is coming off of a bad shoulder injury, that limited him to 33 games in 2018. However, he was on-pace for a career-high 30 points (3G / 27A) before getting hurt.

de Haan was set to miss tonight’s game vs. the Red Wings and it sounds like he will be sidelined for an extended period of time. There are reports that de Haan could miss the rest of the regular season, but the Islanders have yet to put an official timetable on de Haan’s return.

de Haan played just 4:34 TOI before retiring to the dressing room with what appeared to be a knee injury. The Islanders blueline is already without Travis Hamonic, so losing de Haan for an extended period of time would be terrible for New York. With de Haan out, the Isles have recalled Scott Mayfield from Bridgeport (AHL).

de Haan missed the last four games with a lower-body injury that he suffered on March 3rd. de Haan will replace Brain Strait in the lineup and comes in with 10 points (2G / 8A) and plus-7 rating on the season.
