The Avalanche did not hold a morning skate on Thursday.
Because the Avalanche did not skate, it remains to be seen who will start between the pipes in Ottawa. Jeremy Smith started three in a row and is coming off of a loss in Philadelphia on Tuesday, which suggests Pickard will draw tonight's game. Expect head coach Jared Bednar to announce his starter around 5:30 p.m. ET.

Pickard allowed two goals on 32 shots in Colorado’s loss to the Kings on Tuesday. Jeremy Smith gave him the night off on Thursday, so Pickard will get back in goal tonight vs. the Sabres. Pickard has had a nice month, going 3-5-1 with a 2.34 GAA and .924 SV% in his last nine starts and draws a solid matchup tonight.

Pickard allowed three goals on 40 shots in Colorado’s loss to the Lightning on Sunday. Pickard has gone 3-4-1 with a 2.37 GAA and .922 SV% in eight February starts. Tonight he faces the Kings on home ice, where he has gone 4-8-2 with a 2.96 GAA and .904 SV% this season.

Pickard allowed five goals on 33 shots in Colorado’s loss in Brooklyn on Sunday. Jeremy Smith started on Tuesday, so Pickard will go tonight in Buffalo. Pickard has lost three in a row while posting a 3.73 GAA and .879 SV%. He has yet to face the Sabres, but has gone 5-9-0 with a 3.07 GAA and .906 SV% on the road this season.
Pickard will start Sunday in Brooklyn.

Pickard will start Thursday vs. the Penguins.
Pickard stopped all 27 shots that he faced in Colorado’s shutout win over the Canadiens on Tuesday. It was Pickard’s second shutout of the season and he has now won two in a row while turning aside 50 of the last 52 shots (.962 SV%) that he has faced. He draws a terrible matchup vs. the Penguins tonight, but he stopped 28 of 31 shots in a 4-3 OT win in his first start vs. Pittsburgh.

Pickard allowed two goals on 25 shots in Colorado’s win over the Jets on Saturday. It was a nice game for Pickard, who has just eight wins in 23 starts this season. Pickard struggled in his first start vs. Montreal—he was pulled after allowing four goals on 20 shots in just 27 minutes of play.

Pickard allowed five goals on 31 shots in Colorado’s loss in Anaheim on Tuesday. Pickard has lost three straight while posting a 3.38 GAA and .907 SV%. With Spencer Martin struggling on Wednesday, they will go back to Pickard this afternoon. He has yet to face the Jets and is just 2-7-1 with a 3.32 GAA and .893 SV% on home ice.

Pickard will start Tuesday in Anaheim.
Pickard allowed three goals on 41 shots in Colorado’s loss vs. the Canucks last Wednesday. With Semyon Varlamov out for the rest of the season, Pickard will get a chance to be their No.1 and comes into Tuesday with a 5-6-0 record, 2.71 GAA and .918 SV%. He faced the Ducks a few weeks ago and allowed two goals on 36 shots in a 2-1 loss.

Pickard allowed two goals on 36 shots in Colorado’s loss in Anaheim last Thursday. Spencer Martin started the last two games, but Pickard will go tonight vs. the Canucks. Pickard is 1-3-0 with a 2.48 GAA and .925 SV% in January and tonight he faces Vancouver for the third time—he’s gone 0-1-1 with a 2.43 GAA and .909 SV% in the first two.

Pickard allowed one goal on 36 shots in Colorado’s win over the Islanders on December 6th. Semyon Varlamov started the last three games, but will be shut down through the All Star break, so Pickard gets the nod Thursday in Anaheim. Tonight the will face a Ducks team that has won four of their last five (4-0-1) and sit at the top of the Pacific Division.

Pickard allowed four goals on 37 shots in Colorado’s loss in Calgary on Wednesday. Semyon Varlamov will dress tonight, but Pickard will start despite losing five straight games while allowing a combined 22 goals on 162 shots (.864 SV%). It’s been a struggle for the Avalanche, so avoid Pickard even with an above average matchup.

Pickard allowed three goals on 24 shots in Colorado’s loss in Vancouver on Monday. With Semyon Varlamov still out, Pickard will remain in net. The 24-year-old has lost four consecutive games while posting a 4.55 GAA and .856 SV%. One of those losses came against the Flames, who he will face tonight—he allowed six goals on 31 shots in a 6-3 loss on December 27th.

Pickard was 2-7-0 with a 3.72 GAA and .883 SV% in nine December starts. Despite a nice matchup tonight, he is a rough starting option.
