Tonight he will make his first start with the Canucks, as he goes head-to-head with the Oilers again. This is a brutal matchup, so leave DeSmith on the waiver wire on a busy 14-game slate.

DeSmith was 15-16-4 with a .905 SV% and a 3.17 GAA in 38 games played with Pittsburgh in 2022-23 and has been traded to Vancouver for Tanner Pearson and a 2025 third-round pick. The 32-year-old has spent his entire five-year career in Pittsburgh after breaking into the NHL in 2017-18 and has a 58-44-15 record, with a .912 SV% and 2.81 GAA through 134 career games played. He carries a $1,800,000 cap hit into the 2023-24 season.

DeSmith was acquired by Montreal as part of a three-team deal with Pittsburgh and San Jose that include Erik Karlsson going to the Sharks. The 31-year-old goaltender will join only his second team after five season in PIttsburgh and has a career 58-44-15 record with a .912 SV% and a 2.81 GAA. He was 15-16-4 with a .905 SV% and a 3.17 GAA in 33 starts in 2022-23 with Pittsburgh.

DeSmith stopped 31 of 34 shots (.912 SV%) to snap a two-game losing streak as he beat Washington in his previous start. The 31-year-old Penguins' backup has been fairly average all season, with his 14-15-4 record, 3.11 GAA and .907 SV%. He will face the Detroit Red WIngs, who have lost five of their last six games and are 24th in the NHL in goals (2.86).

DeSmith was pulled in his previous start after allowing three goals on 15 shots (.800 SV%) for his first loss in three starts as he was defeated by the Los Angeles Kings. The 31-year-old Penguins backup has not been great this season, with his 9-11-4 record, 3.30 GAA and .903 SV%. He's taking on the San Jose Sharks, who have won three of their last four games after a 4-1 victory over Washington their last time out.

The 31-year-old Penguins' backup has been uncharacteristically inconsistent this year, with his 8-10-4 record, 3.23 GAA and .905 SV%. He takes on the Anaheim Ducks, who have surprisingly won four of their last five outings after a 3-2 overtime victory over Chicago last game.

DeSmith allowed five goals on 31 shots (.839 SV%) for his third loss in four starts as he was defeated by San Jose in his previous game. The Penguins' backup netminder has struggled when called upon this season, with his 7-10-4 record, 3.35 GAA and .901 SV%. He takes on the Colorado Avalanche, who have won seven of their last eight games after a 4-2 win over St. Louis last time out.

DeSmith allowed six goals on 39 shots (.846 SV%) but still picked up the victory as he beat Florida in his previous start. The 31-year-old Penguins backup will be relied upon heavily going forward as Tristan Jarry deals with an injury until after the ASG and he will be hoping to improve his 7-9-3 record, 3.34 GAA and .900 SV%. He will face the Washington Capitals, who have lost their last three games after a 3-2 loss to Colorado last game.
