All of which seems to imply that the Flyers captain is making progress from a right eye injury expected to keep him out of the lineup through at least the first two weeks of November.

The fact that Pronger will play at all after such an awful injury is a welcome sign. Regardless, expect a few setbacks and for the team's captain to need an adjustment period.

Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger is scheduled to make his preseason debut Thursday night against the New Jersey Devils at the Wells Fargo Center. Pronger is recovering from back surgery and three other operations that plagued his 2010-11 season.

The team's new captain should be fine on October 6th. Right now Pronger holds an ADP of 98.7, so you can feel safe taking him among comparable d-men such as Jack Johnson, Ryan Whitney and Alex Goligoski.

Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren, in his first talk with the media since he was injured in a bicycle accident, said on Tuesday he expects defenseman Chris Pronger to be ready to play in the opener Oct. 6 in Boston.

At this point, there could be rust but Pronger playing October 6th is much better than his absence on opening night. Right now Pronger holds an ADP of 98.7, so you can feel safe taking him among comparable d-men such as Jack Johnson, Ryan Whitney and Alex Goligoski.

Asked if he was on schedule to play early in the season, Pronger said, "We'll see how I feel tomorrow. Having not skated and done anything on the ice in 4 1/2 months, you have to take it slowly and take it day by day."

Pronger continues to recover ahead of schedule with an outside shot to not miss any playing time. He would be a very interesting value pick at his current ADP.

He said on Thursday he was making progress, but that he wouldn’t be ready for the start of training camp on Sept. 16. He said he did not know if he would be ready for the Oct. 6 opener in Boston.

After an injury-plagued season which limited him to only 50 games and a disappointing 4/20/25 line, Pronger enters the season with a fair 10th round price tag. Could be a very decent value pick in most leagues.
