Tanev (lower-body) is not expected to play on Tuesday.

Tanev was tangled up with Anze Kopitar on Saturday and absorbed a big hit from Nick Ritchie on Sunday, so he was too banged up to participate in the morning skate and won’t play on Tuesday. With Tanev out, Troy Stretcher was recalled from Utica (AHL) and he is expected to make his NHL debut.

The Canucks have signed Chris Tanev to a five-year, 22.25 million ($4.45M AAV) contract extension.

Tanev does not provide much in terms of offence or fantasy value, but he has been an outstanding defenseman for the Canucks this season. He was set to become a restricted free agent at the end of the season, but is now locked up through the 2019-20 NHL season.

Tanev has been out with a concussion since February 14th, but will be back in tonight vs. Anaheim. Tanev will play in his usual spot on the top-pair with Alex Edler. The 25-year-old has registered 15 points (2G / 13A) in 53 games this season.

Tanev was reportedly spotted leaving the morning skate with an ice bag on his hand. With Tanev out, the Canucks will be without their top-pair because Alex Edler is also out. Alex Biega will make his NHL debut alongside Luca Sbisa in Tanev’s absence.

Tanev was not on the ice for the Canucks morning skate, so he must have suffered the injury on Tuesday vs. the Jets. The team did not specify too much information on Tanev’s status, so consider him day-to-day. He will replaced by Yannick Weber in the lineup tonight.

Tanev suffered an injury in Wednesday's season opener that forced him to miss practice on Thursday, but he was back on the ice Friday and could be in the lineup when they take on the Oilers. Tanev will be evaluated tomorrow and then a decision will be made.

Head coach Willie Desjardins did not shed any light onto Tanev's situation but hopes he is back for their next game which comes on Saturday. Tanev finished Wednesday's game with two assists, two shots and a minus-1 rating in 19:45 TOI. Note that Tanev had just 11 assists in 64 games last season.

Tanev missed the last seven games with a thumb injury, but will return tonight vs. the Wild. There is no official word as to who will come out of the lineup for Tanev. The Canucks could elect to go with seven defensemen like they have many times this season. Tavev has 14 points (5G / 9A) with a plus-8 rating in 54 games this season.

There are reports that Tanev is more like week-to-week and will be out until after the Olympic break. Yannick Weber wil return to regular shifts on defense while Dale Weise draws back into the lineup .
