Chris Gibson News

Gibson will start Thursday in Edmonton.

Gibson turned aside 47 of 50 shots in the Islanders overtime loss in Pittsburgh on Saturday. It was a tough luck loss for Gibson, who was making his season debut, following 33 strong games in Bridgeport (AHL). He will look for his second NHL win in his sixth career game tonight in Edmonton.

With Thomas Greiss hurt and Jaroslav Halak losing five in a row, including last night, Gibson will make his first NHL start of the season tonight. The 25-year-old, former second-round pick has gone 18-11-1 with a 2.31 GAA, .909 SV% and four shutouts in 33 games with Bridgeport (AHL) this season. His first start comes against one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference.

Gibson starts Saturday vs. the Sabres.

Gibson allowed three goals on 32 shots in the Islanders win in Washington on Tuesday. Thomas Greiss got the call on Thursday, but they’ll go back to Gibson vs. the Sabres. He had a strong year going in the AHL and just collected a W over the NHL’s top team, so he could be a decent value option vs. Buffalo. However, the Islanders are going to be without some key members of their team.

The Maple Leafs have sent goalie Christopher Gibson back to Toronto (AHL).

Gibson was recalled to backup James Reimer for the last two games because Jonathan Bernier was out with an illness. With Gibson going back to the minors, Bernier is obviously ready to go on Wednesday vs. the Bruins.
