Claude Giroux is out indefinitely after taking a knee from teammate Wayne Simmonds to the back of the head. After the first couple days, Giroux said he was feeling fine, but the Flyers played it cautiously. The result on Tuesday is exactly why.

Expect Sean Couturier to get a crack at the top line with Giroux out. At this point there is no timetable for his return as his symptoms have gotten worse.

VOORHEES, N.J. — It would have been a surprise if he was on the ice, but Claude Giroux wasn’t on Monday morning for team practice. As expected, the Flyers are holding him out after he was hit in the head on Saturday night by Wayne Simmonds’ right knee and left the game. General manager Paul Holmgren said that he didn’t have headaches after the game and that on Sunday he was feeling better.

Not practicing with the team is a good indication he won't play against the Capitals. Stay tuned for a further update from the team but expect them to play it safe.

Giroux was shaken up in a collision with teammate, Wayne Simmonds. Giroux had fallen to the ice, and the big winger attempted to jump over Giroux to avoid him. But Simmonds’ knee hit Giroux in the head, and Philadelphia’s MVP stayed on the ice for a few moments before skating slowly to the bench.

Absolutely brutal news on the universally owned Giroux. Not only was the Hearst, Ontario native leading the League in points, he already posted two helpers prior to getting hurt. Expect a further update on his status.
