Cody Franson News

The Sabres have signed Cody Franson to a two-year deal worth $6.65M (3.325 AAV).

In 2014-15, Franson split time between the Maple Leafs and Predators—he amassed a total of seven goals and 29 assists (36 points) in 78 games between the two squads. His addition makes an already improved Sabres team that much better. Expect him to play a key role on Buffalo’s power play.

Franson (upper-body) was cleared for contact Wednesday; but won't play in Game 1.

Franson was a full participant in Wednesday’s morning skate, but will be held out of game 1 vs. the Blackhawks. With Franson out, look for Anton Volchenkov to get in.

Franson (upper-body) did not practice on Monday; remains day-to-day.

Franson was held out of the season finale and missed Monday’s practice, which clouds his availability for Game 1 on Wednesday. He will look to get back on the ice on Tuesday.

Franson is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

Franson is reportedly dealing with an upper-body injury and will likely be held out of the season finale on Saturday. Franson has just four points (1G / 3A) in 23 games since being acquired by the Predators. Franson has seen his ice-time drop from 21:23 (with TOR) to 15:25.

Cody Franson
Franson is "unlikely" to make his Predators re-debut on Tuesday.

Franson is unlikely to play because of VISA/immigration issues. With Franson not available, the Predators hope to have Anton Volchenkov back in the lineup. If he doesn’t make his season debut with the Predators tonight, look for him to play on Thursday on Long Island.

The Predators have acquired Cody Franson and Mike Santorelli from the Maple Leafs for Olli Jokinen, Brendan Leipsic and a 2015 first round pick.

Franson, 27, who was originally drafted by the Predators in 2005, spent the first four years of his career in Nashville. 2014-15 was his fourth year in Toronto, he has registered 32 points (6G / 26A) in 55 games at the point of today’s trade. Franson heading to Nashville makes the Preds even more of a legitimate Stanley Cup favourite.

Franson (knee) is paired with Morgan Rielly in warmups; looks like he will play.

Franson missed the first two games of the season with a bruised knee, but should play tonight vs. the Rangers. Franson had five goals and 28 assists (33 points)--1PPG / 17PPA-- last season. He will once again be a key part of the Leafs power-play.

Cody Franson
Franson (knee) is expected to return to the Maple Leafs lineup on Sunday.

Franson was a full participant in the Leafs gameday skate on Saturday, but head coach Randy Carlyle kept Franson out of the lineup last night vs. the Penguins, but that is not expected to be the case tonight in New York. Franson missed the last two games of the preseason and the first two games of the regular season. He is expected to make his season debut on the third pair with Roman Polak--the two have never played together. We will know if he is playing for sure during pre-game warmups.

Franson (Knee) Is "an option" tonight.

Franson was back on the ice for practice Saturday morning and said that he's ready to play. All that Head Coach Randy Carlyle would divulge is that Franson is "an option". We won't know Fransons's status until warm-ups tonight.

Cody Franson
Franson (foot) skated on Friday and is listed as day-to-day.

Franson missed Wednesday's season opener vs. the Canadiens and could miss Saturday's game vs. the Penguins as well. Rookie Stuart Percy had a solid debut in Franson's place so expect him to play again if Franson is unavailable.

Cody Franson
Franson will not play on Wednesday, but still targeting a Saturday return.

Franson said after practice today that the swelling in his knee still has not gone down, but he still expects that he will be able to play on Saturday against the Penguins. With Franson out tonight, Stuart Percy will make his NHL debut on the third pair with Roman Polak.

Cody Franson
Franson (knee) has been placed on injured reserve retroactive to Septmber 28th.

Franson's designation on IR is simply a formality. He is not expected to play in the season opener, so placing him on IR allows the Maple Leafs to carry an extra player until he is healthy. The retroactive move allows Franson to return as soon as he is healthy.

Cody Franson
Franson (knee) will not play on Wednesday, targeting Saturday for a return.

With Franson out, rookie Stuart Percy will make his NHL debut on Wednesday. Franson said he has "a little ways to go" and is hoping to be back on Saturday against the Penguins. Franson is coming off of a season where he had 33 points (5G / 28A) and was second among Toronto D-men averaging 2:54 power-play time per game.

Cody Franson
Franson (knee) is unlikely to play on Wednesday according to head coach Randy Carlyle.

Franson injured his knee in a preseason game last week and was unable to finish practice this morning, so there was already some doubt surrounding his availability. If he can't play, look for rookie Stuart Percy to make his NHL debut.

Cody Franson
Franson (knee) left practice early on Monday.

Franson has been battling a left-knee injury since crashing into the boards in last Sunday's preseason game vs. the Sabres. Not being able to complete practice this morning puts his status for Wednesday's season opener in doubt. Should be unavailable, 21-year-old Stuart Percy will enter the lineup.
