Ryan Murphy News

Murphy didn’t pick up a point in his first two games in the NHL this season and will be replaced by Nate Prosser in the lineup on Monday.

Murphy was recalled from Iowa (AHL) on Tuesday and will make his season debut in Toronto this afternoon. Murphy, who has played in 172 career NHL games, has 13 points (3G / 10A) in 27 games with Iowa this season.

Knight has been with the Flyers organization for the last two seasons, playing strictly in the AHL. During those two years, Knight has amassed 25 goals and 52 assists (77 points) in 130 games with Lehigh Valley. He is expected to replace Mikhail Vorobyov tonight.

The former No.12 overall pick has never been able to find his game at the NHL-level and often splits his season between the AHL and NHL. This past season, Murphy had 28 points (4G / 24A) in 48 games with Iowa and five points (2G / 3A) in 21 games with Minnesota. He will likely serve as the Wild’ No.7 defenseman throughout the 2019 season.

Murphy who moved around the NHL a few times this summer eventually landed in Minnesota and has picked up one goal and 10 assists (11 points) in 18 games with Iowa. The former junior start is still trying to get his career on track after recording just 37 points (6G / 31A) in 151 career NHL games with the Hurricannes.

Murphy has had an interesting week. He was traded from Carolina to Calgary and then bought out before signing with the Wild on Saturday. The former No.12 overall pick is mobile and has a lot of offensive upside, but needs to polish his defensive game. Injuries have been a concern for the 24-year-old as well, but sticking in the NHL should be his main concern.

Murphy was in the final season of a two-year contract that carried a $787.5K cap-hit and his buyout will save the Flames $687.5K against the cap this season. Murphy was recently acquired from the Hurricanes as a part of the Eddie Lack trade, but will now hit free agency on Saturday.

Murphy can be classified as a bust after being selected No.12 overall in 2011, but the majority of it can be chalked up to injury issues. In his first five seasons, he has amassed just 37 points (6G / 31A) in 151 career NHL games and likely won’t get a major opportunity to play thanks to a top notch Flames’ blueline.

Murphy has been a healthy scratch for the last four games and has only appeared in four games with the Hurricanes this season. The Hurricanes are reportedly shopping Murphy, but he’ll head to the AHL for a maximum of 14 days.

Murphy missed the first eight games of the season with a lower-body injury, but he is expected to play alongside Noah Hanifin tonight. Murphy had 10 assists in 35 games with the Hurricanes a season ago.

Murphy signed a new contract in the offseason but will start the season injury. His injury opens the door for Haydn Fleury, Roland McKeon or Trevor Carrick to crack the opening night roster.

Murphy missed Saturday’s game in Minnesota, but will play Tuesday vs. the Sabres. Murphy has three assists in seven games since being recalled from Charlotte (AHL).

Murphy played just one game during his call up and then sat as a healthy scratch for the next two. He has picked up just four assists in 19 games this season.
