Crawford allowed three goals on 34 shots in his return to the crease vs. the Islanders on Thursday. It was his first start in almost one month and while it wasn't the best outing, he is only going to get better as he shakes off the rust. He will need to be at his best when he takes on a Sharks team who have won five of their last seven.

Corey Crawford expected to return Thursday or Friday.

Crawford didn’t dress for the game against the Kings — the 10th consecutive game he missed — but is expected to return Thursday against the Islanders or Friday against the Devils. Not a moment too soon for Crawford, either, because he was getting antsy skating by himself. ‘‘It felt pretty long when I was out,’’ said Crawford, who added he never had an injury this severe. ‘‘I was getting pretty bored there for a bit. It’s nice to be back on the ice with the guys.’’

Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said goaltender Corey Crawford should start skating again this week.

Crawford was originally expected to miss three weeks, and it has only been nine days. Resuming skating this week will be a positive sign in his return from his lower-body injury. Expect Crawford to be back in late December or early in 2014.

Crawford (lower-body) did not travel with the team to Dallas for their matchup with the Stars on Tuesday.

Crawford suffered the injury on Sunday night while making a rather harmless looking save on Marcel Goc. The injury at the time looked quite serious, but it was reported this morning that the injury is not believed to be as serious as it might have looked. Regardless the team has recalled Kent Simpson and he will serve as the team's second goalie while Crawford is on the shelf. Chicago has four games this week, but there is no word yet as to how many Crawford will miss. Monitor his status when Chicago returns home for Wednesday's game against the Flyers.

An injury to Corey Crawford, which looked very bad at first, might not be that after all.

Crawford was injured with six minutes remaining in the first period. He struggled to move laterally after a right-pad save on Marcel Goc’s shot, and play was halted. Crawford, with the help of a trainer, headed to the locker room. As bad as Crawford’s injury looked originally, coach Joel Quenneville sounded optimistic about the goaltender. “I haven’t talked to the docs yet, but I don’t think it’s too serious,” he said. “But when it’s a goalie, it’s a little more serious than other players because of how important he is to the team. We’ll have a better assessment tomorrow, but we’re thinking along those lines (of prognosis).”

Crawford 13 minutes into the first period with an apparent lower-body injury.

Crawford was injured on what appeared to be a relatively easy save, but appeared to be in a lot of pain following the pad stop. He had to be helped off of the ice and was replaced by Antti Raanta. Judging by the amount of pain Crawford appeared to be in, you have to fear that it could be serious injury. The Blackhawks are already without goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin, so Raanta would take over as the team's number-1 should Crawford miss an extended period of time. Expect an update after the game and tomorrow.
