Corey Crawford News

The Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to terms with goaltender Corey Crawford on a six-year contract extension, through the end of the 2019-20 season.

Crawford, 28, posted a 16-7 record with one shutout, a league-best 1.84 goals-against average and a .932 save percentage in 23 post-season games while helping the Blackhawks capture the 2013 Stanley Cup. The Montreal, Quebec, native has earned an 83-43-19 record with eight shutouts, a 2.40 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage in 152 career games with Chicago from 2005 to 2013.

Crawford to start Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals

Crawford has been excellent in the post-season. He leads the playoffs in GAA with a 1.74 and sits second to Tukkaa Rask in SV% with a .935. The Rask vs. Crawford matchup is an intriguing one as they both were not the starters the last time each of these teams won the Stanley Cup, but now they get their shot.

Crawford allowed two goals on 27 shots in Game 3's 3-1 loss in Los Angeles. The Kings stayed perfect at the Staples Center in the postseason so it won't be an easy task for Crawford to steal one on the road tonight. The Blackhawks will be without their best defenseman Duncan Keith for tonight's contest.

Crawford allowed two goals on 31 shots in Game 2's 4-2 win. He now holds the playoff's best GAA with a 1.67 and second best SV% with a .938. He has been fantastic all year and with another good performance tonight, he could have the Hawks one win away from the Stanley Cup Finals.

Crawford was not as busy as Jonathan Quick in Game 1 but he was excellent regardless. He allowed one tally on 22 shots in the Game 1 win. He will obviously be back in goal tonight and will look to lead the Blackhawks to a 2-0 series lead.

Crawford allowed one goal on 26 shots in a 4-1 win in Game 5. He now has the Playoffs second best GAA (1.66) and third best SV% (.938). The Blackhwaks face elimination again tonight but this time on the road and Crawford will need to be ready for Joe Louis Arena to be rocking.

Crawford exorcised more than a few first-round demons with his convincing performances against the Minnesota Wild. The netminder was looking more like he did against Vancouver in April 2011 than Phoenix in April 2012, and he finally notched that postseason series victory. He posted a spectacular 1.32 GAA and .950 SV% in round one. He will need to be good to shut down the Red Wings' Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg who carried Detroit past the Ducks.

With Ray Emery out the Blackhwaks are obviously going with Crawford in Game 4.

Crawford was busy in Game 3. He faced 37 shots and turned aside 34 of them in the 3-2 OT loss. Minnesota was throwing everything at him and will likely do the same tonight. The Hawks are still the favorites to win the series but the Wild have made it tough on Chicago.

The combination of Crawford and Ray Emery had the lowest goals against average this season. Crawford finished the season with a 19-5-5 record with a 1.94 GAA and .926 SV%. The Blackhawks are huge favorites for this series and in the Western Conference, making Crawford a great goaltending option in playoff fantasy leagues.
