Craig Smith is under the weather
Smith will not play tonight due to his illness. The rookie has nine goals and 26 points on the season but has cooled down from his fast start. In his last 12 games he has just a goal and an assist.

Smith gets the first crack at replacing Legwand which says a lot about how the team regards him. He has five goals and 11 points over his first 14 NHL games, second to only Legwand.

Most notably, Trotz took rookie Craig Smith off David Legwand’s line and put him with Blake Geoffrion and Matt Halischuk.
Smith played well alongside David Legwand and Colin Wilson but moves down to the third line with his former teammate Geoffrion.

The Predators’ rookie will play his first game in Bridgestone Arena this evening. It will give Nashville fans their first chance to see Smith, the Predators’ top forward prospect. And Nashville Coach Barry Trotz expects to play Smith in a big role. Like a first line center role.
Smith impressed at this summer's World Championships and should continue to impress the team's brass. Last season the Wisconsin native scored 19 goals and 43 points with his hometown University. Keep an eye on him as he should play a big role on the team this season.
Earlier this month, 2009 4th round draft pick Craig Smith opted to leave the University of Wisconsin two years early to turn pro. Today, the Preds have officially signed Smith to a two-year entry-level contract.
