He draws a strong matchup tonight in Ottawa and comes into play at 6-4-0 with a 2.88 GAA, .902 SV% and one shutout on the road this season.

McElhinney will start Thursday in Buffalo.

McElhinney stopped all 23 shots that he faced in the Hurricanes shutout win in Pittsburgh on Tuesday. It was an impressive return to the crease for the veteran netminder, who will make his second straight start tonight in Buffalo. For a goalie who was waived at the start of the season, McElhinney has been dialled in most of the season and comes into Thursday’s game at 5-4-0 with a 2.67 GAA, .907 SV% and one shutout on the road.

McElhinney will start Tuesday in Pittsburgh.

McElhinney will make his first start since January 15th, a night where he allowed six goals on 28 shots in a loss in New York. Prior to that he had won four in a row but draws a tough assignment in Pittsburgh this evening. The veteran allowed three goals on 35 shots a loss the first time he faced Pittsburgh and is 4-4-0 with a 3.00 GAA and .897 SV% on the road this year.

McElhinney allowed two goals on 29 shots in the Hurricanes loss to the Ducks on Friday. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for McElhinney, who was 4-1-1 with a 1.66 GAA and .949 SV% in November. Tonight he takes on a Sharks team that is 8-3-2 on home-ice and is averaging 3.04 goals for per game (14th in the NHL) through 28 games.

McElhinney was outstanding in Montreal, stopping 48 of the 49 shots that he faced to preserve a 2-1 win. McElhinney has won four straight games while allowing just five goals on 150 shots (.967 SV%). His stellar play led to the Hurricanes placing Scott Darling on waivers yesterday, handing the No.1 job to McElhinney for the time being.
