Daniel Alfredsson News

Daniel Alfredsson (groin) still is not ready to play. He didn't skate today, after practicing on Tuesday.

Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock expected Alfredsson to be ready for tonight's preseason game, however that is not the case. Detroit's second line of Johan Franzen, Stephen Weiss and Alfredsson has yet to play a preseason game as a full unit.

Daniel Alfredsson returned to practice after missing a few days with a sore groin. He skated with Stephen Weiss and Johan Franzen, a line that hasn't been intact yet for a preseason game.

“It was a good practice today,'' Alfredsson said. “I felt good. It was a good pace. I’ll see how I feel later today and tomorrow and go from there.'' Babcock said he assumes Alfredsson will play Wednesday.

Wings deal has been agreed upon with Alfredsson, one year, $5.5 M (including $2 M in bonuses)

After spending 17 seasons with the Ottawa Senators, Alfredsson is on his way to Detroit. He brings a ton of leadership to an already veteran lineup and will play with fellow Swedes NIklas Kronwall, Jonathan Ericsson and of course Henrik Zetterberg. He had 26 points in 47 games last season but scored 27 goals just two years ago.
