DeKeyser will miss 1-2 weeks with a separated shoulder.

DeKeyser suffered some type of separation to his left shoulder less than four minutes into Tuesday’s 2-0 loss to Nashville when he was checked into the boards by Patric Hornqvist. "He’s going to go for tests (Wednesday),’’ GM Ken Holland said. “(Team doctors) looked at it and said he needs further assessment. He’s out at least 1-2 weeks, depending on what they see. It’s some type of separation, but we don’t know the severity.’’ DeKeyser had eight points (two goals, six assists) in his past 10 games before Tuesday, after picking up just one point in his first 11 games. Overall, he has nine points and a plus-5 rating, while averaging 21:46 in ice time.

DeKeyser (illness) did not skate this morning but is expected to dress on Tuesday.

DeKeyser has acclimated himself well in his first full NHL season. He is averaging 21:47 TOI but has seen a recent bump in minutes because of the injury to Jonathan Ericsson and his overall strong play. DeKeyser has two goals and seven assists in 21 games this season and should be a waiver wire consideration for team's lacking depth on the blueline.

Red Wings head coach Babcock said Danny DeKeyser will play on first pair tonight with Niklas Kronwall.

DeKeyser has been solid to start his first full NHL campaign. He has logged 20-plus minutes in all of the last five games and is averaging exactly 20 minutes through 12 games. He has two assists and a plus-3 rating, but the move to the top-pair should give him a fantasy boost.

Defenseman Danny DeKeyser hasn't skated the past two days after hurting his knee Wednesday against Pittsburgh. But he is confident he'll be ready for the season opener Wednesday against Buffalo.

“I feel good,'' DeKeyser said. “I kind of twisted it a little bit in the last game but it's kind of precautionary, a little sore after that. Make sure it's 100 percent before I get out there again.'' He might skate Saturday morning but will not play in the preseason finale at Toronto later that night.

Dan DeKeyser has chosen Detroit.

The highly sought after 6-foot-3-inch two-way defenseman DeKeyser has decided to stay in Michigan and sign with the Red Wings. It is believed that most of the teams in the NHL tried to sign him but he ultimately signed with Detroit. He registered two goals and 13 assists in 35 games as a member of the Western Michigan Broncos this season. He is likely going to be given a shot with the Red Wings, if he produces he could become a fantasy relevant defenseman.
