David Backes News

Backes left Thursday’s game with an upper-body injury and did not return.

Backes played 3:10 TOI before he left yesterday’s game in Buffalo. The Bruins did not have any update on Backes’ status post-game, so expect an update prior to tomorrow’s game vs. the Sabres. If he can’t play,, expect Jimmy Hayes to draw into the lineup.

Backes (elbow) will return to the Bruins' lineup on Saturday.

Backes has missed the last five games after undergoing an elbow procedure, but will be back in the lineup tonight vs. the Rangers. Backes will skate on the Bruins’ second line and second power-play unit—he has two goals and two assists in five games this season.

Backes (elbow) could resume skating on Tuesday; expected to miss at least two more games.

Backes has missed the last three games after undergoing an elbow procedure, but it looks like he won’t play on the Bruins’ trip to Florida (TUE @ FLA, THU @ TBL) and the earliest he might return is Saturday vs. the Rangers. Monitor Backes’ status as the week progresses.

Backes underwent a procedure on his elbow and will miss at least two more games.

Backes underwent the removal of the olecranon bursa from his elbow on Monday and will be re-evaluated after the weekend, which means he will miss tonight’s game vs. the Rangers and Saturday’s game against the Red Wings. With Backes out, the Bruins have recalled Austin Czarnik from Providence (AHL).

The Bruins have signed David Backes to a five-year deal worth $30 million ($6.0M AAV).

Backes spent the first 10 years of his NHL career with the Blues after they drafted him 62nd overall in the 2003 NHL Draft. He had developed into one of the best all-around fantasy centres, but is coming off of a disappointing 45-point (21G / 24A) season, but that did not damage his UFA value. He may shift to the wing in Boston, seeing as their top-2 centre positions are locked in with Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci.

David Backes
Backes (lower-body) missed Monday’s practice; will need to practice before he returns to the lineup.

Backes’ absence on Monday suggests that he won’t be available for Game 1 on Wednesday, but monitor his status during Tuesday’s practice to be sure. He is expected to be back at some point during the first round. Magnus Paajarvi will take his spot until he is able to go.

David Backes
Backes (lower-body) will miss the rest of the regular season.

Backes suffered a lower-body injury in Sunday’s win and will miss at least one week. The Blues have three games left in the regular season, so he’ll miss all three and then be re-evaluated prior to the playoffs. Expect Ryan Reaves to draw in for him on Monday.

David Backes
Backes was moved to the Blues' top line on Monday.

Backes has spent the majority of the season playing alongside mediocre wingers, but on Monday he was moved to the top line with Vladimir Tarasenko and Alex Steen. Backes has just six points (3G / 3A) in 17 games this season, so moving him to the top line should help spark some production.

Backes (face) will play on Thursday.

Backes missed practice on Wednesday, but was on the ice for the Blues morning skate and will play tonight vs. the Islanders. Backes is not 100 percent, but he will wear a protective face shield and do what he can. Backes has 12 points (7G / 5A) in 27 games this season.

David Backes
Backes (face) is doubtful for Thursday’s game.

Backes was at the rink on Wednesday, but did not practice. Head coach Ken Hitchcock said Backes is still in pain and is doubtful for Thursday’s contest vs. the Islanders. With Backes out, Chris Porter would draw into the lineup and Patrik Berglund would centre a line with T.J Oshie and Alex Steen.

David Backes
Backes (face) did not practice on Wednesday.

Backes is not out there for practice for the second straight day. He took a puck to the face on Monday vs. the Panthers and could be in danger of missing tomorrow’s game vs. the Islanders. Backes is a tough dude, so I would expect him to play, but monitor his status during Thursday’s morning skate.

David Backes
Backes (concussion) will play on Saturday.

Backes has been cleared to play after missing just one game with a concussion that he suffered on Tuesday vs. Dallas. With no lingering concussion-like symptoms, Backes will return and centre the Blues top-line tonight. He has two goals and three assists in eight games this season.
