Vancouver Canucks

Dorsett (neck) will not return to the Canucks active roster; effectively ending his NHL career.

This is a tough break for the veteran tough guy who was involved more offensive at the start of 2017-18 than he had been at any point in his NHL career. After the 20-game mark, Dorsett was on-pace for a career-high 29 goals and 303 PIMS but an on-going neck injury will force the 30-year-old to walk away from hockey at the recommendation of doctors.

Derek Dorsett's Jersey
The Canucks have traded the 85th overall pick in this weekend's draft to the Rangers for Derek Dorsett.

Dorsett, 27, had four goals and four assists (eight points) with 128 penalty minutes in 51 games with the Rangers this past season. He is a go-hard player who gives it his all on every shift. New Canucks' head coach Willie Desjardins was Dorsett's head coach with the Medicine Hat Tigers (WHL) from 2004-2007. Dorsett has 64 points in 61 games and a 16 playoff points in 17 games en route to a WHL Championship in 2006-07. Desjardins brings in a player he is familiar with to fill an important fourth line role.

Derek Dorsett's Jersey
Derek Dorsett, who has not played for the Rangers since coming over in a trade-deadline deal from Columbus with a broken clavicle, told the Daily News after Monday’s practice in Greenburgh that he could be available to dress sometime during the first round, which doesn’t begin until Thursday night in D.C.

Dorsett is not a good playoff fantasy option. However he would be a good piece for the Rangers to get back because he brings a physical brand of hockey that is perfect for playoff hockey.
