Brassard (upper-body) will play Tuesday vs. the Rangers.

The Islanders have signed Derick Brassard to a one-year contract.

Brassard was a great No.2 centre during his time in New York but has struggled since—averaging 16 goals and 20 assists in the last three seasons. He isn’t suited for a checking role, so signing with the Islanders could provide him a chance to return to a top-6 role.

Brassard (illness) is expected to play in Game 1 in San Jose.

Brassard missed the final three games of the first round with an illness but is expected to replace Gabriel Bourque for Game 1 against the Sharks. Brassard did not record a point in two games in round one and had just four goals in 20 games after being acquired by the Avalanche.

The Avalanche have acquired Derick Brassard from the Panthers for a third-round draft pick.

The Panthers are in Colorado tonight so Brassard will likely walk down the hall and face his former team. The Avalanche are looking for some help offensively and adding Brassard to their middle-6 should help. The 31-year-old centre has had an off-year, scoring just 10 goals with nine assists (19 points) in 50 games with the Penguins and Panthers.

Brassard (lower-body) will be back in the Penguins lineup on Saturday.

Brassard has missed the last nine games with a lower-body injury, but he is set to return on Saturday night. Brassard is expected to centre the Penguins second line with Phil Kessel and Jake Guentzel with Sidney Crosby out with an upper-body injury. Brassard has one goal and four assists (five points) in eight games this season.

Brassard (lower-body) will be a game-time decision on Saturday.

Brassard has missed the last nine games with a lower-body injury, buts on the ice on Friday and declared himself a game-time decision. Brassard’s return would be welcomed, as Sidney Crosby is questionable with an upper-body injury. Brassard had five points (1G / 4A) in eight games before getting hurt.
