Toews had shoulder surgery in the offseason and has resumed skating but is expected to miss at least a few games to open the 2021-22 season. With Toews out, Jack Johnson was brought into training camp on a PTO and could earn a contract with the Avalanche.


Toews was hurt late in Thursday's win over the Sharks after blocking a shot with his foot. Toews did not travel to Minnesota, so he'll miss at least two games but could be out longer. Conor Timmins will replace Toews on Saturday.





Toews has registered five goals and 14 assists (19 points) in 24 games with Bridgeport this season. Over the last three years, Toews has 18 goals and 68 assists (86 points) in 130 games. He comes up with Thomas Hickey on IR and could make his NHL debut on Thursday.

Erskine has yet to play this season because he had been a healthy scratch for the first five games. He must have sustained an injury n practice and the move to IR will allow the Capitals to recall someone who might actually play from the AHL.
The Capitals would not pinpoint what is ailing Erskine, but it is likely related to his fight with Vincent Lecavalier on Wednesday. The fight earned him a game misconduct. He will be replaced by Cam Schilling.
Erskine has been dealing with an upper-body injury that has held him to just seven games. He is eligible to return to the lineup on November 20th.
Capitals head coach Adam Oates is glad to have the rugged defensemen back in the mix but plans on easing him back into game action on the third pairing with Steve Oleksy in Winnipeg.
Erskine has missed the last two games, but practiced Monday and today. However the Capitals will want to make sure he is 100% before re-inserting him back into their lineup.
Erskine will miss his second straight game tonight but could return on Wednesday. He usually doesn't reach double digits in points, so he is not a fantasy asset.
He has a minus-5 rating in the Capitals first four games. Consider Erskine questionable for tomorrow's game with the Avalanche.
Erskine has only appeared in 17 games this season for the Capitals. No word on if he will return to the blueline tonight, I would expect him to sit out.
