Nabokov has officially announced his retirement as a member of the San Jose Sharks.

Nabokov, 39, will retire as one of the greatest Russian netmiders of all time. Nabokov played 14 NHL seasons, going 353-227-29-59 with a 2.44 GAA, .911 SV% and 59 shutouts. He was 42-42 in the postseason but retires without a Stanley Cup ring.

The San Jose Sharks have acquired Evgeni Nabokov from Tampa Bay for future considerations.

Originally drafted by San Jose in the ninth round (219th overall) of the 1994 NHL Draft, the 39-year old Nabokov holds nearly every San Jose Sharks franchise goaltending record, including: games played (563), wins (154) and shutouts (50). Nabokov will make an announcement regarding the future of his hockey career on Wednesday, he is expected to retire as a Shark.

The Lightning placed Evgeni Nabokov on waivers on Sunday.

Nabokov signed with the Lightning in the offseason, but has not played well, going 3-6-2 with a 3.14 GAA and .882 SV%. Andrei Vasilsevskiy has performed well at both levels, so the Lightning will move Nabby and Vasilevskiy will serve as the backup to Ben Bishop.

He will take on a Flyers team who are finally getting it together;having won three of their last four.

Nabokov stopped 21 of 22 shots in the Lightning’s 2-1 shootout loss to the Sabres on December 2nd. It was a tough loss for owners who spot-started Nabby, but you get another juicy matchup tonight with the Hurricanes in-town. However, look at your other options first because Nabokov’s 3.14 GAA and ..814 SV% leaves little to be desired right now.

Nabokov surrendered five goals on 36 shots in the Lightning’s loss to the Islanders on November 18th. Workhorse Ben Bishop has started the last five games, but Nabby gets back in goal tonight vs. the Sabres. It is a tremendous matchup, making Nabokov a great spot-start.

Nabokov was pulled after allowing four goals on eight shots in a 7-2 loss to the Wild on October 25th. Yeah, a .500 SV% is enough to get you pulled that is for sure. He will look to rebound tonight against a banged up Blue Jackets team who are starting a rookie goaltender.

Nabokov stopped 21 of 22 shots in a win over the Flames on Tuesday. He has stopped 44 of 47 shots (.936 SV%) in his two starts this season. With two back-to-backs in the same week, this will likely be the only time he will start two games in a week. He draws a tough matchup vs. the Wild.

Tonight, he will attempt to completely end the Capitals season. He is 1-1-0 with a 3.01 GAA and .902 SV% vs. Washington this season.

Nabokov allowed two goals on 31 shots in a loss in Tampa Bay last Thursday. The Isles have alternated goalies in each of the past five games, so tonight vs. Florida is Nabby's turn. He wrapped March up at 2-2-2 with a 3.12 GAA, .894 SV% and one shutout. It is a battle of two bad teams tonight, so it is up to you if you want to take a risk on the 13-year veteran netminder.

Nabokov stopped all 41 shots that he faced in a 2- win over the Blue Jackets on Sunday. After allowing 26 goals in his previous seven starts (3.71 G/G), no one saw a 41-save shutout coming. Despite the shutout, he is not a good option tonight in Tampa Bay vs. Steven Stamkos who has seven goals and three assists in his last seven games.
