The Senators have five days off between games so they sent Chlapik back to the AHL to get some salary savings. The 22-year-old has one goal in six AHL games this season and returns to the Senators where he has one assist in two games.

The Senators don't play again until Saturday so it is entirely possible that Chlapik returns to the Senators prior to their game in Boston. The 22-year-old bumped Bobby Ryan from the lineup on Sunday but failed to record a point while playing just 6:06 TOI. He has one goal in six games with Belleville.

The Senators are expected to rest Matt Duchene on Thursday, so Chlapik gets his first call-up of the season. The 21-year-old, former second-round pick has 15 goals and 15 assists (30 points) in 41 games with Belleville this season.

Chlapik, 21, was close to making the Senators opening night roster, but was one of their final cuts this weekend. The former second-round pick had just four points (1G / 3A) in 20 NHL games a year ago and picked up 32 (11G / 21A) in 52 games in Belleville.
