Claesson was banged up in Saturday's win in New York and will not play tonight vs. the Penguins. With Claesson out, Matt Tennyson was recalled from Binghamton (AHL) and will replace him tonight.
Claesson (undisclosed) will come out of the Devils lineup on Sunday.
The Devils have acquired Frederik Claesson, Janne Kuokkanen and a conditional second-round draft pick from the Hurricanes for Sami Vatanen.
Claesson signed on with the Hurricanes in September and has spent the entire 2020 season in the AHL. In 47 games with Charlotte the 27-year-old picked up three goals with 16 assists (19 points) and will likely report to Binghamton (AHL).

Claesson will miss 2-3 weeks with a shoulder injury.
Claesson was banged up against the Islanders on Saturday and missed Sunday’s game with a shoulder injury that should keep him out until at least early-February. This should allow Tony DeAngelo to remain in the Rangers lineup permanently moving forward.
Claesson (upper-body) will undergo an MRI; not in the lineup on Sunday.
Claesson suffered an upper-body injury against the Islanders on Saturday and will not be available for Sunday’s game in Columbus. Claesson will have an MRI done, which suggests that the injury could be fairly long-term.
Claesson is expected to be back in the Rangers lineup on Thursday.

Claesson had one assist but played just 11:28 TOI in last night’s win in Florida. Claesson has been inconsistent this season but tonight’s scratching is more about getting Erik Burgdoefer a game.
