Babcock appears set on keeping third line of Andersson, Nyquist and Tatar in place. At least for now.

Nyquist has made it clear that he wants to make the Red Wings roster out of camp, but he may be sent down. Due to the abundance of forwards the Red Wings have and being pushed up against the cap, Nyquist could start the season in AHL. Babcock still has the three young guys together on the third line, so we will have to wait and see what the Red Wings decide to do.

Nyquist received a two-year contact from Detroit that has an annual cap hit of $950,000. He'll earn $850,000 this season and $1,050,000 in 2014-15. He will still be a restricted free agent when this deal expires.

The 23-year-old forward appeared in 22 games for Detroit during the regular season, and then appeared in all 14 of the Red Wings' playoff games.

Babcock said Abdelkader will start on line with Datsyuk and Franzen but that Nyquist will play up there too. Nyquist starts with 63 and 11

Nyquist will need to take advantage of his time on Datsyuk's line if he wants to play there permanently. Abdelkader has yet to produce on that line so Nyquist should have no problem bumping him down.

The Red Wings have recalled Gustav Nyquist from Grand Rapids and reassigned Tomas Tatar to the Griffins.

Nyquist is the AHL's leading scorer right now with 60 points in 57 games. He failed to register a point in two games for the Red Wings this season. He will likely play alongside Pavel Datsyuk and Johan Franzen.

Nyquist will make his NHL playoff debut Friday night at Bridgestone Arena, where he'll play on the Red Wings' third line in the spot vacated by Darren Helm, who was lost for the season in Game 1 after suffering a cut on his left forearm that required surgery.

Nyquist had one goal and 6 assists in 18 games with the Red Wings this season. He was much more effective in a top 6 role alongside Pavel Datsyuk.
