The Avalanche have signed Jack Johnson to a one-year contract.

Johnson didn't play a lot in 2021, registering just one goal in 13 games with the Rangers. This preseason, he was in Avalanche camp on a PTO and earned a one-year deal to be their No.6 defenseman to open the season. With Devon Toews out, Johnson should be a fixture on the blueline in the early part of the season but will likely fall back into a reserve role once Toews is healthy enough to play.

The Sharks have placed Martin Jones on unconditional waivers for the purposes of a buyout.

Jones was heading into the fourth year of a six-year contract that carried a $5.75M AAV cap-hit. The buy-out will save the Sharks $4.083M against the cap for the next three years but will cost them $1.67M from 2025-to-2027. Jones had an ugly 3.04 GAA and .896 SV% in 137 games during the first three years of that contract.
