Jacob Markstrom News

Markstrom has missed over two weeks due to an upper-body injury but will return to the crease on Monday against the Detroit Red Wings. The 36-year-old Swedish goalie has been serviceable early in his Panthers tenure, posting a 3-1-1 record, but has been lightly tested most nights, resulting in a pedestrian .897 SV% and a 2.21 GAA. The Panthers enter Monday's contest as -171 home favourites against a Red Wings team that has scored four or more goals in five of their last seven games (4-2-1).

Markstrom is off to a decent start in his second stint with the Florida Panthers, posting a 2.21 GAA and .897 SV% in six games (3-1-1), but will likely miss several games as he returns from injury. Expect Akira Schmid to see most of the action during Markstrom's absence, but Head Coach Paul Maurice said he expects recently recalled Cooper Black to see some action as well.

Jacob Markstrom exited Monday's 5-3 loss to the Buffalo Sabres early in the second period for precautionary reasons and was replaced by Akira Schmid, who saved 18 of 21 shots (.857 SV%) in the losing effort. Schmid will likely continue to tend the twine in the interim, but Markstrom should be back on Wednesday against the Ottawa Senators.

Jacob Markstrom exited yesterday's 5-3 loss to the Buffalo Sabres early in the second period for precautionary reasons and was replaced by Akira Schmid, who saved 18 of 21 shots (.857 SV%) in the losing effort. Markstrom is not expected to miss significant time, but he will not suit up for Tuesday's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Panthers have been riddled with injuries early in the 2026-27 season, but newcomer Jacob Markstrom has given them a chance on most nights. That said, the 36-year-old Swedish goalie is coming off his first regulation loss, allowing three goals on 28 shots (.893 SV%) in a 4-1 loss to the Minnesota Wild. He has a 1.70 GAA and .916 SV% in four games this season (2-1-1). The Panthers enter Monday's contest as slight +101 road underdogs against a Buffalo Sabres team that has been outscored 11-19 through five games (2-3-0).

The Panthers have high expectations for Markstrom after acquiring him in an offseason trade, and they'll turn to him to tend the twine for the third time in four games. The 36-year-old Swedish goalie has been solid early in his return to Florida, the team that drafted him in 2008, posting a 1.40 GAA and .914 SV% in two games (1-0-1). The Panthers enter Tuesday as -114 road favourites against a Los Angeles Kings team that has been outscored 13-8 through two games (0-1-1).

Markstrom will regain Florida's crease on Sunday after pitching a shutout in their opening-night overtime win over Carolina last Tuesday, stopping all 15 of 15 shots against. The 36-year-old was acquired from New Jersey in the offseason after several rough seasons and will look to continue his early success in Anaheim on Sunday. The Ducks are coming off a 4-3 opening night win over Vegas on Friday and will look to stay undefeated in their second contest of the season.

Markstrom was acquired in the offseason from New Jersey in a five-player deal and will get the crease for Florida's opening night matchup in Carolina on Tuesday. The 36-year-old is entering his 17th NHL season with his fifth organization and will hope for some better luck in Florida after posting an ugly 23-19-1 record, .883 SV% and 3.07 GAA last season. He will head to Raleigh to take on last year's Stanley Cup Champions, the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Panthers entered the postseason with neither of their goaltenders from the previous season under contract. Now, after acquiring Akira Schmid from the Vegas Golden Knights on Monday, they completed their goaltending tandem on Tuesday by acquiring Jacob Markstrom from the New Jersey Devils. The 36-year-old Markstrom has struggled with consistency throughout his career and is coming off an unencouraging 2025-26 season, during which he posted a pedestrian 3.07 GAA and .883 SV% in 44 appearances (23-19-1). That said, he will be joining a stronger defensive Florida Panthers team and hopes to return to the form he has had in previous seasons.

New Jersey announced Friday that 36-year-old netminder Jacob Markstrom would miss the final week of the season as he rests and recovers from nagging injuries. The news comes as little surprise after New Jersey was mathematically eliminated from the playoffs earlier this week. Markstrom puts a cap on a disappointing second season in New Jersey, posting a final record of 23-19-1 wth a SV% of .883 and an ugly 3.07 GAA. Nico Daws was recalled in a corresponding move.

Markstrom has seen his playing time dwindle of late, but will get the opportunity to make a second consecutive start when the Devils host the Flyers on Tuesday. Devils head coach Sheldon Keefe will understandably stick with the hot hand after Markstrom delivered a shutout performance in Montreal on Sunday. The 36-year-old goaltender carries a 23-18-1 record and an .885 SV% into Tuesday night's matchup, where the Devils enter action at -120 on the money line.

The Devils are likely out of contention for a playoff spot, but they have played well lately and have received more consistent netminding from Markstrom. The 36-year-old Swedish goalie allowed four goals on 33 shots (.879 SV%) in his most recent outing, a 5-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes, but he has a serviceable 2.70 GAA and .895 SV% in his last 13 games (8-5-0). The Devils enter Tuesday's contest as -117 road favourites against a New York Rangers team that has outscored opponents 9-2 in its last two games (2-0-0).

After two consecutive starts for Jake Allen, the Devils will turn to Markstrom on Thursday against the Nashville Predators. The 36-year-old Markstrom is on a two-game winning streak but has been far from stellar, allowing three or more goals in six consecutive outings (4-2-0), posting a subpar 3.29 GAA and .863 SV%. The Devils enter Thursday's contest with -105 odds on the road against a red-hot Predators team on a five-game winning streak.
