The Panthers acquired Jamie McGinn from the Coyotes for Jason Demers.

This is seemingly more more of a salary-saving move by the Panthers than an actual need for a player like McGinn. The Panthers are eating 12.5% of Demers’ contract to send him to Arizona, but it frees up a spot on the blueline for either Ian McCoshen or MacKenzie Weegar. McGinn is coming off of a disappointing 17-point (9G / 8A) season in Arizona.

The Coyotes have placed Jamie McGinn (upper-body) on IR retroactive to October 5th.

McGinn is eligible to come off of IR and play whenever he is healthy, but remains without a firm timetable for when that will be. He is not with the Coyotes on their road-trip, so they might not get him in the lineup until after they return home at the end of the month.

McGinn (upper-body) missed Tuesday’s practice and is questionable for the Coyotes’ season opener.

McGinn has been absent since last Friday’s preseason contest and remains questionable for the season opener. Thankfully for the Coyotes, they don’t open the season until Saturday, so it gives McGinn a few extra days to recover.

The Coyotes signed Jamie McGinn to a three-year contract worth $10 million ($3.33M AAV).

McGinn, 27, had a nice 2015-16 season with the Sabres and Ducks. He had 14 goals in 63 games before he was traded at the deadline, where he added an additional eight goals in 21 games in Anaheim. He finished the year with 39 points (22G / 17A) in 84 games. He’s a heavy dude at 6-foot-1, 205 lbs. and should file in on the Coyotes’ top-6 in 2016-17.
