Jarome Iginla News

Meanwhile, fans sit and await word as to when Jarome Iginla will resume to a full practice routine. The Captain is skating again, but hasn’t resumed contact drills which would leave his availabilty for opening night in serious doubt. If he cannot go, that’s two thirds of your top line unaccounted for. Again, not the best case scenario.

The team's brass continues to explain he will be ready for opening night but at this point he has yet to even practice. Last year he scored 43 goals and 86 points which led the team and finished sixth in overall scoring. Look for at least 30 goals and 70 points over a full season.

Jay Feaster just told #sportsnet hc@noon that jarome iginla will play in the season opener. #goodnewsforflames

Without Iginla the Flames would be even more of an underdog entering the season. Last year he scored 43 goals and 86 points which led the team and finished sixth in overall scoring. Look for at least 30 goals and 70 points over a full season.

It's now official, Jarome Iginla will not play a preseason game this year for the Flames. The good news is, the captain did skate on his own for 20 minutes or so today, which is the first time he's skated since the first training camp session two weeks ago. There's still no word on when Iginla will be ready to return to full practices, but the hope is he'll be ready to start the regular season.

Hope doesn't sound like a definite so keep an eye on his status moving forward. Iginla should return to the lineup and score his usual 30+ goals. Last season, Iginla scored 43 goals and 86 points over 82 games while captaining the Flames. If age isn't a concern, this minor injury should't be even though he hasn't missed a game in five of the last six seasons.

Jarome Iginla didn't skate once again, however there's a chance he may be back on the ice tomorrow as he continues to recover from back spasms. I'd be surprised if Iginla played a preseason game, but there's a pretty good chance he'll be in the lineup to start the regular season on October 8th.

It sounds like the captain is fairly close to returning to the lineup after he left the first practice of training camp with back spasms. Iginla updated the situation a couple days later and we hadn't heard much since then, so it was good to hear Feaster's update Monday.

Iginla left the ice with back spasms. Apparently nothing serious, just didn't want aggravate anything further. #Flames

Iginla is somewhat of a slow starter, scoring only 2 goals in October last year before finishing the season with 43. He probably continues that trend this season as he gets comfortable back on the ice.
