The Captain is skating again, but hasn’t resumed contact drills which would leave his availabilty for opening night in serious doubt. If he cannot go, that’s two thirds of your top line unaccounted for. Again, not the best case scenario.

It's now official, Jarome Iginla will not play a preseason game this year for the Flames. The good news is, the captain did skate on his own for 20 minutes or so today, which is the first time he's skated since the first training camp session two weeks ago. There's still no word on when Iginla will be ready to return to full practices, but the hope is he'll be ready to start the regular season.

It sounds like the captain is fairly close to returning to the lineup after he left the first practice of training camp with back spasms. Iginla updated the situation a couple days later and we hadn't heard much since then, so it was good to hear Feaster's update Monday.

Iginla is not expected to miss any games due to this injury. He just felt tight and is held out for precautionary measures.

Iginla is somewhat of a slow starter, scoring only 2 goals in October last year before finishing the season with 43. He probably continues that trend this season as he gets comfortable back on the ice.
