Berube will make his first start of the season on Friday.

Tonight he will take on the Sabres, who have gone 4-2-1 while averaging 3.29 goals per game since Jack Eichel returned to the lineup.

The Islanders signed Jean-Francois Berube to a one-year deal.

Berube, 24, was hampered by a lower-body injury early in 2015-16, limiting him to just 12 games between the NHL and AHL. In seven games with the Islanders, he was 3-2-0 with a 2.71 GAA and .914 SV%. In his brief time with Bridgeport, he was 4-1-0 with an impressive 1.25 GAA and .960 SV%. Berube will continue to serve as the Islanders’ third goalie behind Jaroslav Halak and Thomas Greiss.

Berube is day-to-day with an undisclosed injury.

The Islanders have recalled Chris Gibson from Bridgeport (AHL) because Berube is unavailable to backup on Monday. The Islanders are already without Jaroslav Halak, so things are getting difficult in goal for them. Look for Thomas Greiss to start tonight vs. the Lightning.

Berube will start Saturday in Carolina.

Berube allowed one goal on 23 shots in the Islanders win over the Senators on Wednesday. Since Jaroslav Halak was hurt, Berube has gone 1-0-1 while turning aside 55 of 57 shots (.965 SV%). He has played very, very well and tonight he draws a strong matchup vs. a Hurricanes team that has lost five of their last six games.

Berube stood on his head on March 15th, stopping 33 of 34 shots in the Islanders’ shootout loss in Pittsburgh. It was an exceptional outing for Berube, who is now 1-1-1 with a 2.52 GAA and .924 SV% in three starts this season. After missing three months with a lower-body injury, Berube went to Bridgeport on a conditioning stint, where he went 4-1-0 with a 1.25 GAA and .960 SV%. He had to be recalled because his conditioning stint was up, so he will likely be traded or put on waivers because the Islanders already have Jaroslav Halak and Thomas Greiss.
