Ottawa has signed Claude Giroux to a one-year, $2 million contract extension (with the possibility to make $4.75 million after bonuses).

Ottawa will be bringing back a familiar veteran presence in 2025-26 after announcing it has signed Claude Giroux to a one-year, $2 million extension, with the possibility of earning up to $4.75 million in bonuses. The 37-year-old is entering his 19th NHL season and his fourth with Ottawa after putting up a modest 15 goals and 50 points in 81 games played in 2024-25.

With the Senators locked into the top Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, they will rest Giroux on Tuesday against the Chicago Blackhawks. The 37-year-old Giroux is averaging 18:16 time-on-ice and has 50 points (15G / 35A) in 80 games this season, marking the 13th 50-point campaign of his career.

Carter announced his retirement on Thursday after 19 NHL seasons.

Carter played the final game of his career in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to the New York Islanders, scoring one goal in 14:50 time-on-ice. The 39-year-old Carter was the 11th overall pick of the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He hangs up his skates with 851 career points (442G / 409A) in 1321 games split between the Flyers, Los Angeles Kings, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Pittsburgh Penguins.
