The Canadiens have signed Jeff Petey to a four-year, $25 million ($6.25 million AAV) contract extension.

Petry had one-year left on his six-year, $33M contract that he signed in 2015 but earned a fresh four-year extension and got a $750K AAV raise. Petry has recorded three-straight seasons of at last 40 points and has not missed a game over that stretch.

Petry (knee) is expected to play on Saturday.

Petry travelled with the team but didn’t play on Thursday, but he was back at practice on Friday and should be in the lineup on Saturday. Petry was practicing with Andrei Markov and will bump rookie Mikhail Sergachev from the lineup. Petry had 16 points (5G / 11A) in 51 games a season ago.

Petry (knee) will not play in the Canadiens’ season opener on Thursday.

Petry suffered a knee injury in Thursday’s preseason game and will miss the start of the regular season. With Petry out, Mikhail Sergachev will make his NHL debut against the Sabres on Thursday. Petry is listed as day-to-day.

Petry (lower-body) will not play on Tuesday.

Petry will not play tonight because of a lower-body injury, so Nathan Beaulieu will re-enter the lineup after sitting for the last two games. Petry is on-pace for 25 points this season, which would tie his career-high set in 2011-12. Petry is considered day-to-day.

Petry missed Friday's practice; day-to-day with a lower-body injury.

Petry is dealing with a lower-body injury, which forced him to miss Friday’s practice and will force him to miss Saturday's game. He is listed as day-to-day, so monitor his status heading into next week. Look for Greg Pateryn to play vs. the Penguins.

Petry (lower-body) will not play on Monday.

Petry suffered a upper-body injury in Saturday’s loss in Dallas and it will keep him out of Monday’s game in Nashville. With Petry out, Jarred Tinordi will make his season debut. Petry is also questionable for Tuesday’s game in Minnesota and likely won’t play until after the Christmas break.

Jeff Petry
Petry is doubtful for Thursday with an illness.

Petry was not at the morning skate and he is listed as doubtful to play tonight because of the flu. Petry has no points and a minus-1 rating in nine games since being traded to the Canadiens. Nathan Beaulieu will be back in for Petry.

The Canadiens have acquired Jeff Petry from the Oilers for a 2015 2nd round pick and a 2015 conditional 5th round pick.

Petry, 27, is a strong two-way forward who is very good at breaking out of his own end. He is strong offensively as well, posting 15 points (4G / 11A) in 59 games with the lowly Oilers. He was a minus-25 in Edmonton, but that won’t be the case in Montreal. He will likely slot in on right side on the Habs second pair.
