The Penguins have recalled goaltender Jeff Zatkoff form Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (AHL).

The Penguins starter Marc-Andre Fleury is reportedly ill and is being tested for mumps. With Fleury likely out tomorrow, Zatkoff has been recalled and should be Thomas Greiss’ back vs. the Avalanche. Zatkoff, 27, has played in 15 AHL games with WBS this season, posting a 9-5-1 record, 1.89 GAA and a .918 SV% with one shutout. His GAA ranks fifth in the AHL.

Zatkoff starts for Pittsburgh.

Zatkoff allowed four goals on 20 shots in a loss to the Wild on March 5th. He will start the season finale after Marc-Andre Fleury started last night. Despite losing his last two outings, he is 12-6-1 with a 2.66 GAA and .911 SV% in his first NHL season. Should Fleury falter in the playoffs like he has in the last few seasons, Zatkoff will be the guy the Pens lean on.

Zatkoff will start in goal for the Penguins.

Zatkoff gave up three goals on 32 shots in a loss to the Kings on March 27th. In a battle of the backups, he was outduelled by former AHL teammate Martin Jones. Tonight, he will take on Ilya Bryzgalov and the Wild. Given his play this season and the quality of squad he plays for, he is always considered a strong spot-start candidate.
