Hiller (hip) has been activated from IR.

Hiller has been out since October 28th with a hip injury, but has been activated from IR and will serve as Karri Ramo’s backup on Friday. With Hiller back, the Flames have sent Joni Ortio back to Stockton (AHL) after he cleared waivers.

Hiller has missed the last six games and will miss No. 7 tonight, but it appears as if he is only one week away from returning to the lineup. When Hiller returns the Flames will have a decision to make in terms of who to send to Stockton. Kari Ramo has played serviceably well since being recalled when Hiller went down.

Hiller left Wednesday's game with a lower-body injury following a collision with Bobby Ryan. The Flames recalled Karri Ramo on Thursday, which suggests that Hiller won't be ready to play on Friday. With three goalie options, there is no reason to rush Hiller back for tonight's game. Look for Joni Ortio to get the nod.

It has been an ugly October for Hiller, who has posted a 3.52 GAA and .872 SV% en route to a 2-3-0 record. Tonight he will face a Senators team that his tied for ninth in scoring—averaging 2.88 goals per game.

With Karri Ramo getting demoted, Hiller has been given a chance to take over as the Flames’ No. 1 and Friday was a good start. Tonight he will be in tough against a Rangers team that has started the season 5-2-1.

With Ramo being sent down on Thursday, Hiller has a chance to carve out a larger role, but he has to play well. He enters play on Friday with a 1-2-0 record, 3.72 GAA and .867 SV%.—he’ll take on a Red Wings team that has lost three straight.

Hiller allowed four goals on 28 shots in the Flames loss to the Blues on Tuesday. It was a rough outing for Hiller, who has the only Flames win so far this season. With Karri Ramo starting last night, Hiller will be in goal tonight vs. the Oilers. Hiller was 3-0-0 with a 1.99 GAA and .909 SV% against the Oilers last season.

Hiller will return to Anaheim to take on the team that simply gave up on him last year. After spending seven seasons in Anaheim, Hiller signed with the Flames this offseason. Hiller went 1-2-0 with a 3.43 GAA and .889 SV% in three starts and one relief appearance against the Ducks this season. Despite the regular season struggles against his former team, Hiller comes in as a confident goaltender after posting a 2.20 GAA and .931 SV% in the first round.

Hiller made 28 saves on 29 shots in the Flames 3-1 win over Vancouver in Game 4. The win gave the Flames a 3-1 lead in the series and a chance to eliminate the Canucks tonight. Hiller has posted a 1.79 GAA and .938 SV% in the series so far, but don’t expect the Canucks to roll over tonight.

Hiller stopped 29 of 30 shots in the Flames 2-1 win over the Canucks in game 1. Hiller made a number of huge saves and gave the Flames a chance to take a 2-0 lead heading back home. He will need to be equally as good for the youthful Flames to win again tonight.
