Jonathan Bernier News

Bernier is expected to get the start against the Predators.

Bernier suffered his first defeat of the season on Tuesday, but still played very well. He allowed just two goals on 33 shots, but the Maple Leafs did not provide much in the way of goal support. Against the Predators, he should be a good play tonight.

Dustin Brown will open the season on the Kings third line with Jarret Stoll and Trevor Lewis.

After missing the preseason with a hamstring injury, Brown has been bumped down to the third line because of Dwight King's impressive camp alongside Anze Kopitar and Justin Williams. The Kings like to roll all four lines so Brown will still see ample playing time on the third line. This move could be temporary as he works himself back into game shape after not playing in an exhibition game.

#Leafs' Bernier, #Flyers' Mason were goaltenders for Canada's 2008 world junior team. They'll face each other tonight.

Bernier spent the first five years of his career as a backup in Los Angeles. He went 29-20-6 with a 2.36 GAA and .912 SV% in that time. This will be his second career game vs. Philadelphia, in his first he allowed six goals and was yanked.

Reimer will start in goal for the Maple Leafs tonight vs. Habs which means Bernier is expected to face the Flyers on tomorrow.

Dustin Brown skated on his own after practice for the first time since injuring his hamstring at the start of camp.

"He skated one day since the start of camp, and he’s not a guy that can just jump into a game," said Kings head coach Darryl Sutter "So if he doesn’t get any exhibition games, I’d say it’s highly unlikely that you’ve got a player that’s ready for the season." You do not like to hear this from coach Sutter, however Brown is not expected to miss an extensive period of time so his draft day value should remain the same.

Kings sign Dustin Brown to 8-year, $47-million extension

The right-winger joined goaltender Jonathan Quick, defencemen Drew Doughty and Slava Voynov and forwards Mike Richards and Jeff Carter as players signed for at least the next six seasons. Brown is, in many ways, the Kings’ identity. The 28-year-old right-winger’s aggressive forecheck led the way during the 2012 Stanley Cup run, when he was a point-a-game player.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired goalie Jonathan Bernier from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for Matt Frattin, Ben Scrivens and a second-round pick.

The 24-year-old netminder went 9-3-1 with a 1.88 GAA and .922 SV% as a backup for Jonathan Quick this season. Bernier is set to become a restricted free agent on July 5th. Maple Leafs GM Dave Nonis said in no way should the trade be looked upon as a vote of non-confidence for James Reimer. "It's not a knock on James at all," Nonis said in a conference call. "I don't think you can be deep enough at that position.

Brown has been suspended two games for his hit on Minnesota Wild forward Jason Pominville.

Brown delievered a hard elbow to Pominville's head in the second period of yesterday's contest. Pomnville left the game and did not return. He is day-to-day with an upper-body injury. Brown will miss the Kings last two games, tonight vs. Detroit and Saturday vs. San Jose. Tyler Toffoli was recalled today and could replace Brown in the Kings lineup.

Confirming that Dustin Brown will indeed have a hearing today for his elbow on Jason Pominville. Kings play in Detroit tonight.

Brown elbowed Pominville in the second period last night and Pominville did not return to the game. We'll have to wait and see if he gets suspended later this afternoon.

Jonathan Bernier left the ice first at Honda Center.

This does not always guarantee the starter but in the case of the Kings the first goalie off has started every game this season. Bernier posted a 23-save shutout against Minnesota in his last start. He has another tough assignment tonight as he will face Pacific Division leading Anaheim Ducks.

Jonathan Bernier leads the Kings onto the ice in Dallas.

Bernier is 7-2-0 with a 1.94 goals against average and .923 save percentage, hasn’t started a game since stopping 40 of 42 shots against Phoenix on March 19, and is yet to face a Dallas team that is 2-0-0 against the Kings.

Jonathan Bernier
Who starts in goal this evening in Dallas? There’s no morning skate and the Kings don’t announce their starting goaltenders or lineups ahead of time, so it’s not possible to observe who comes off the ice first.

I’m leaning 55-45% in favor of Jonathan Bernier starting on the second night of a back-to-back, but travel and back-to-back games are not firm precedents that determine starting goaltenders in Darryl Sutter’s considerations.
