Reinhart missed Tuesday’s practice and today’s gameday skate so he will be held out of the lineup tonight vs. the Red Wings. He is day-to-day with an undisclosed injury and will be replaced by Andrew Ference.
Reinhart was not at practice on Tuesday so his status for Wednesday’s game against the Red Wings is up in the air. Monitor Reinhart’s status during tomorrow’s morning skate, but if he is ruled out, Andrew Ference will draw into the lineup.
Weal, 23, is expected to replace Andy Andreoff in the Kings’ lineup on Friday. The 2010 third round pick (70th overall) had 20 goals and 49 assists (69 points) in 73 games with Manchester (AHL) last season.
Reinhart, 21, had one assist in eight games with the Islanders this season. He has seven goals and 15 assists (22 points) in 59 games with Bridgeport. He will likely serve as an extra defenseman in the playoffs.
Weal, 22, has 19 goals and 46 assists (65 points) in 70 games with Manchester this season. With the Kings out of the playoffs, Weal will likely make his NHL debut on Saturday. He was a third round pick (70th overall) in 2010.
Reinhart had one assist and a plus-2 rating in five games during his recall. His return to the AHL suggests that either Johnny Boychuk or Travis Hamonic will be ready to go on Friday in Detroit.
Reinhart was recalled on Wednesday and with the Isles missing Travis Hamonic, Lubomir Visnovsky and Johnny Boychuk, he will get into the lineup tonight. Reinhart failed to record a point with a minus-1 rating and two PIMS in three games earlier this season.
The Isles placed Johnny Boychuk and Lubomir Visnovsky on IR to make room to call Reinhart. Reinhart, 20, has two goals and six assists in 15 games with Bridgeport this season. He has no points in three career games with the Islanders.
Reinhart had no point and was a minus-1 while averaging 14:23 TOI in his first three NHL games. With Calvin de Haan coming off of injured reserve, the Islanders had to make a move. Reinhart was the youngest of the crop so they have sent him back to the AHL to continue to develop his game.
Reinhart, 20, was the Islanders first round pick (4th overall) in 2012. Reinhart is coming off of a season where he had four goals and 17 assists (21 points) in 45 games with the Edmonton Oil Kings (WHL) last season. Reinhart will play with Brian Strait on the Isles third pair.
The fourth overall pick in 2012 has yet to make his NHL debut. He will return to the Oil Kings where he had eight goals and 21 assists in 59 games last season. His return to junior likely means he will have a spot on Team Canada's World Junior roster.
The 6-foot-4, 202 lbs Reinhart was the fourth overall pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. He is a good two-way defenseman, with a solid skating ability for a player of his size. His NHL ready body should help him translate his game into the NHL quickly. He had 26 goals and 64 assists (90 points) in three seasons as a member of the Edmonton Oil Kings (WHL).
Weal failed to make the cut, which speaks more to the supporting cast in Los Angeles than his talent level. Last season, the pivot scored 43 goals and 96 points for the Regina Pats of the WHL. Keep an eye out for him in a few seasons.
