Jordie Benn News

Benn is expected to be a healthy scratch on Tuesday.

Benn has not recorded a point but has 11 shots, five blocks and two hits while averaging 17:29 TOI/GM through the first five games of the season. His scratching likely has more to do with the Canadiens wanting to see what they have in Joe Morrow than it does with Benn playing poorly. Benn has posted a 62.7 CorsiFor% and a 7.1 relative Corsi so far, so they can’t be expecting much more out of him from a puck possession perspective.

Benn will make his Canadiens' debut on Tuesday.

A day after being acquired from the Dallas Stars, Benn will make his Montreal debut tonight vs. the Blue Jackets. Benn is a solid two-way defenseman, but comes in with just 15 points (2G / 13A) in 58 games this season. Expect him to serve a big role on the Canadiens’ penalty kill—he averaged 2:30 TOI per game with Dallas.

The Stars have signed Jordie Benn to a three-year extension worth $3.3M ($1.1 AAV).

Unlike his brother Jamie, Jordie Benn is not known for his offence. The 28-year-old blueliner had just three goals and nine assists (12 points) in 64 games with the Stars in 2015-16. Carrying just a $1.1M cap-hit, the Stars have a solid third pairing defenseman for next to nothing.
