Keith Yandle News

Yandle is expected to make his Rangers debut on Monday.

After being acquired from the Coyotes last night, he will make his Rangers debut tonight vs. the Predators. He is expected to start his Rangers career with Kevin Klein, but head coach Alain Vigneault is expected to mix those two up with Marc Staal and Dan Boyle until he finds a combination that works. Yandle has 41 points (4G / 37A) and a league-worst minus-32 rating in 63 games with the Coyotes.

The Blues have acquired Robert Bortuzzo and a 7th round pick from the Penguins for Ian Cole.

The Blues acquired Zbynek Michalek earlier in the day, who is a shot blocking defensive defenseman, but he is recovering from a concussion right now so the Blues add Bortuzzo as insurance. Bortuzzo is an in-your-face physical defenseman who plays a relatively simple game.

The Rangers have acquired Keith Yandle, Chris Summers and a 2015 4th round pick from the Coyotes for Anthony Duclair, John Moore, a 2016 1st round pick and a 2015 2nd round pick.

Yandle, 28, has one more year on his contract with a $5.25M cap-hit. He is a left shot that will likely line up next to Kevin Klein. He is a great offensive defenseman. Yandle skates, moves the puck and shoots well, but has been known to turn the puck over frequently. He has four goals and 37 assists (41 points) but is a league worst minus-32 in 63 games this season. However, he will love heading to New York to play for a good team and will help the Rangers PP that already ranks 11th in the NHL.

Penguins defenseman Robert Bortuzzo has been suspended two games for his hit on Jaromir Jagr on Tuesday.

Bortuzzo’s hit was late and he also made contact with Jagr’s chin. Because Bortuzzo did not leave his feet on the hit, he got off with a relatively short suspension. Bortuzo is eligible to return next Monday in New York. Expect Brian Dumoulin to play in the two games in which Bortuzzo will be unavailable.

Bortuzzo is within a few days of returning to the Penguins lineup according to head coach Mike Johnston. Bortuzzo has not played yet this season, but will likely be in the lineup full-time starting next week when Olli Maatta misses four weeks after having surgery to remove a tumour from his neck.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have activated defenseman Robert Bortuzzo from injured reserve and re-assigned him to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League, it was announced by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero.
