The Red Wings have signed Kevin Boyle to a one-year contract.

Boyle spent the first four years of his pro career in the Ducks organization, appearing in just five career NHL games. He's a depth signing for Grand Rapids (AHL) after going 9-7-2 with a 2.82 GAA and .911 SV% in 20 AHL games a season ago.

Boyle stopped all 35 shots that he faced in the Ducks shutout win over the Canucks on Wednesday. It was an impressive first career start for Boyle, who has posted impressive AHL numbers throughout his career. Boyle has now stopped 59 of 61 shots (.967 SV%) since being called-up.

Boyle allowed two goals on 26 shots after replacing Chad Johnson in the Ducks 6-2 loss in Philadelphia last Saturday. The 26-year-old was 19-7-0 with a 2.72 GAA and .909 SV% in 30 games with San Diego (AHL) before being called-up. Tonight he faces a Canucks team that has lost four of their last five games while being outscored 19-to-11.

The Ducks signed Kevin Boyle to a one-year extension worth $675K.

Boyle, 25, turned pro last season and split his season between the AHL and the ECHL. He was solid in the AHL, going 10-5-1 with a 2.27 GAA and .924 SV% but played for Utah (ECHL) during the playoffs and was 1-4-0 with a 3.32 GAA and .900 SV%.
