Kris Russell News

The Stars have acquired Kris Russell from the Flames for Jyrki Jokipakka, Brett Pollock and a conditional second round pick.

Russell was 15 points (4G / 11A) in 51 games with the Flames this season. The pending unrestricted free agent is known for his fearlessness to block shots, where he currently ranks second in the NHL with 174. He will likely slide in as a second-pairing guy in Dallas, which will bump Johnny Oduya to the third pair.

Russell (lower-body) is expected to play on Saturday vs. New Jersey.

Russell has missed the last two games with a lower-body injury, but it looks like he will get back on the blue line tonight. Russell took part in the morning skate and was paired with Dennis Wideman on the second pair as well as the second power-play unit.

Russell (lower-body) could return to the lineup on Thursday.

Russell missed Tuesday’s game, but head coach Bob Hartley said that Russell could be back tomorrow vs. the Blackhawks. This is good news that the injury is not serious and Russell should be back in the lineup soon. Russell has eight assists in 19 games this season.

Russell missed Tuesday’s game due to a lower-body injury.

Russell was on the ice for the Flames morning skate, but was scratched shortly before Tuesday’s win over the Ducks. He has had a great first month and a half of the season, so the Flames are hoping that this is no more than a day-to-day injury. Rapheal Diaz will play as long as Russell is out.

Russell missed close to a month with a knee injury earlier in the year. He returned on January 20 and has recorded four assists in eight games since returning. He has totalled 20 points (4G / 16A) in 43 games this season.

Russell (knee) will return to the Flames lineup tonight.

Russell has missed the last 13 games with a knee injury but will be back to face the Sharks tonight. HeRussell registered 16 points (4G / 12A) in 36 games before getting injured. Another impressive stat was his plus-1 rating, not bad for a team who gives up as many goals as the Flames.

Russell (knee) is getting close, probably two or three games away says Bob Hartley.

This is great news for the Flames, Russell has missed the last 12 games and was arguably their best blueliner before hurting his knee. On a team that was outscored 113-88 in the 36 games he played, he was impressively a plus-1. Look for him to come back next Wednesday or Friday if coach Hartley's timetable is correct.
