The Kings have acquired Lias Andersson from the Rangers for a 2020 second-round pick (No.60 overall pick).

Andersson was the No.7 overall pick in 2017 but was a headache for the Rangers in 2020. Andersson struggled in a fourth line role, posting just one assist in 17 games before being sent to Hartford (AHL). He appeared in 13 AHL games before being suspended by the Rangers and ultimately loaned to HV71 in the SHL. He performed better in his home country, scoring seven goals with five assists (12 points) in 15 games. His dad is a scout for the Kings, so they are taking a low-risk chance on him bouncing back.

The Rangers have assigned Lias Andersson to Hartford (AHL).

Andersson spent the first half of the season playing for Frolunda in Sweden before captaining team Sweden to a Silver medal in the World Juniors. The summer’s No.7 overall pick had 14 points (7G / 7A) in 22 games with Frolunda and will provide a big boost to the Wolf Pack and potentially the Rangers later in the season.

The Rangers have assigned Lias Andersson to Frolunda (SHL).

Andersson, 18, was the No.7 overall pick in this summer’s draft and it looked like he might get a nine-game tryout with the Rangers, but was assigned to the Swedish Hockey League this afternoon. Andersson had nine goals and 10 assists (19 points) in 42 games in Sweden last year. Fellow rookie Filip Chytil remains with the team.

The Rangers have selected Lias Andersson with the No.7 overall pick.

Andersson’s offensive ability won’t jump off of the screen, but he has a great two-way game. Andersson posted a strong 19 points (9G / 10A) in 42 games with HV71 in the top league in Sweden. Andersson is already used to playing against men and is a solid, safe pick.
