The Coyotes have acquired Markus Hannikainen from the Coyotes for a conditional 2020 seventh-round pick.

Hannikainen has not played in an NHL game this season after picking up seven points (4G / 3A) in 44 games with Columbus last year. Instead he's got 18 points (7G / 11A) in 28 AHL games and is expected to Tucson (AHL) where he can build on that.

The Blue Jackets have recalled Markus Hannikainen from Lake Erie (AHL).

Hannikainen has registered four points (1G / 3A) in five AHL games this season and comes up ahead of the Blue Jackets' Friday/Saturday back-to-back. With Alexandre Texier out, Hannikainen could replace Jakob Lilja and make his season debut this week. He has 15 points (8G / 7A) in 91 career games with Columbus.

Hannikainen was removed from IR on Sunday but was a healthy scratch vs. the Jets. Hannikainen will return to the lineup after a nine-game absence, replacing Lukas Sedlak on the fourth line. Hannikainen has seven points (4G / 3A) in 42 games this season.

Hannikainen’s move to IR is retroactive to February 14th, so he will miss tonight’s game in Montreal but is eligible to be activated ahead of Friday’s game in Ottawa. His move to IR opens up a roster spot for Brandon Dubinsky to be activated from IR.

Hannikainen has spent the majority of the year with the Blue Jackets, where he has two goals and two assists in 27 games. During his time Cleveland, the 24-year-old winger registered three assists in seven games. He is not expected to draw into the lineup on Friday.
