Maccelli (lower-body) has been placed on IR retroactive to October 17th.

Maccelli had to be helped off the ice after suffering a lower-body injury while being tripped by Darren Raddysh in an October 17th 4-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. The 26-year-old Maccelli has started the 2026-27 season well, scoring six points (2G / 4A) in eight games, and has been a fixture on the team's top power-play unit. He was originally given a 2-4 week recovery timeline, so he is likely still at least a week away.

New York has signed Matias Maccelli to a one-year, $2.25 million contract.

Last offseason, the Toronto Maple Leafs acquired Matias Maccelli with the hopes that he could provide supplementary offence and playmaking after the departure of Mitch Marner. The 25-year-old Finnish forward had a decent season with the Maple Leafs, scoring 39 points (14G / 25A) in 71 games, but the team opted not to give the restricted free agent a qualifying offer, sending him to free agency and ultimately signing a one-year contract with the New York Islanders.

Maccelli missed Monday's practice due to illness.

Maccelli did not practice on Monday due to illness, and it is unclear whether he will be ready to suit up when Toronto returns to action tomorrow against the Chicago Blackhawks. That said, Maccelli has been a healthy scratch for the previous two weeks and was probably not being rushed back into the lineup with the team playing above .500 during that stretch.

Maccelli is expected to draw back into Toronto's lineup in Washington on Friday.

Max Domi will be a healthy scratch on Friday against the Washington Capitals, allowing Maccelli to re-enter the lineup. The 25-year-old Maccelli was signed in the offseason to lessen the blow of losing Mitch Marner, but Maccelli has not been able to contribute anywhere near Marner's elite rate. Maccelli has nine points (4G / 5A) in 21 games this season.

Macelli did not play in Monday's 4-3 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins, his first time as a healthy scratch this season, but he will re-enter the lineup on Wednesday against the Utah Mammoth. The 25-year-old Finnish forward is averaging 13:40 time-on-ice, recording five points (2G / 3A) and 11 shots in 12 games.

The Maple Leafs acquired Matias Maccelli from the Mammoth for a conditional 2027 3rd round pick.

The 2027 3rd round pick can become a 2029 2nd round pick if the Maple Leafs make the playoffs and Maccelli records at least 51 points during the 2025-26 season. Maccelli had a down-year in 2024-25, but in the two years prior to that he averaged 16 goals and 44 assists (60 points) per 82 games. With Mitch Marner likely on his way out, Maccelli should provide some of the playmaking from the wing that their top-6 is losing.

Maccelli will be a healthy scratch vs. Pittsburgh on Wednesday.

Utah HC head coach Andre Tourigny refused to provide insight on Maccelli being a healthy scratch other than it being an "internal decision." The 24-year-old Maccelli is averaging 13:58 time-on-ice and has 17 points (8G / 9A) in 48 games this season. Michael Carcone will draw into the lineup as Maccelli's replacement.
