Pittsburgh Penguins

The Penguins have activated Matt Murray from IR.

Murray has been out since November 17th but will be available to start or backup on Wednesday. Casey DeSmith has played very well since Murray got hurt, so Murray could be the Penguins No.2 netminder moving forward. The 24-year-old has gone 4-5-1 with a .877 SV% this season.

Murray has been out since November 17th but was back on the ice before the Penguins hit the ice for practice. Murray’s original timetable was “longer-term” so it is unclear if he is on schedule in his recovery. Casey DeSmith has played pretty well in Murray’s absence, so expect the Penguins to be patient

The Penguins did not provide a timetable for Murray’s return, but expect the young netminder to be out long-term. Murray, who has been struggling this season, has reportedly been dealing with this injury four a couple of weeks. Murray will likely be re-evaluated in a couple of weeks and the Penguins should provide a clearer timetable on his return after that. Tristan Jarry has been recalled to serve as Casey DeSmith’s backup for the time being.

Murray stopped all 38 shots that he faced in the Penguins shutout win in Toronto last Thursday. It was a shocking shutout for Murray, who had allowed a combined 11 goals in his first two starts. Tonight he will face an Oilers team, that is great when Connor McDavid is on the ice, but not so much when he’s not.

Murray (concussion) took part in Thursday’s skate but will not be available vs. the Golden Knights.

Murray has been ruled out for tonight’s game against Vegas, but the fact that he is already on the ice is good news. It is hard to pinpoint a timeline when dealing with a concussion, but it doesn’t look like Murray will be out long-term.

Murray will start Saturday vs. the Canadiens.

Murray allowed six goals on 36 shots, but still walked away with a win vs. the Capitals on Thursday. It wasn’t a great start to the season for the young netminder, but there should be better days ahead. He is a must-start tonight vs. a Montreal team that is expected to finish in the bottom-third of the league this season.
